Yeah, that was some serious incompetence from Williams. Even without the still frame, he should have had an idea of where the brown and black were, at least which way around if nothing else. But to have the still frame (which was actually spot on) and just ignore it, that was poor. By the way, interesting picture with the circles for where the balls were, must be very helpful compared to what the referees usually get.

Anyway, some fragmented snooker in the first four frames, but not too bad. I think Stevens will be a bit frustrated, because he had chances in all four frames, and yet he doesn't have a lead. We might see Robertson raise his game after the interval.

Stevens must be livid, with the cameraman putting him off continually in the previous frame at a crucial time he can seriously say he should be 3-1 or even 4-0 up instead of 2-2, if he goes on to lose this something needs to be done - i heard the refs get together and review things, they need to talk about distractions and re-positioning of balls after fouls for this tourney

and there it is, Stevens now behind managing to lose frames he should have won and Robertson winning frames he should lose, can't see Robertson losing now, he is so much better under pressure

Just watched the brown/black repositioning, and it is definitely a situation that must be reviewed by the governing body. We now have a high technology assistant in Hawkeye and it was blatant that the black/brown and yellow were not in their original positions.
Yes, refing is a difficult job to do and with this very helpful tool to assist it becomes a bit easier and repositioning situations are usually now handled very quickly with its help, but why in this match it was ignored?
          I am shocked.
Hopefully Stevens can put it out of his mind to not affect his performance which up til that point had been good.
          Up the TSF! :snooker:

Sounds a bit pessimistic to me, Robertson has been playing so bad, if he can't get his rhythm going, then Stevens definitely got a chance.

Stevens just looks like grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory in every frame, he probably couldn't finish his breakfast this morning either

Williams is the problem, he's not too high tech. It's like he's still living in the eighties in fact. Good referees adapt to new technology. You'll never see a rugby ref denying a try when the TMO says "Yes try". You'll never see a tennis umpire overrule the hawkeye. I bet any "younger" referee in the world would've just followed the still frame and obviously it was the right thing to do.

Both players wasting some good chances today, particularly Stevens. He might pay for it now, as Robertson has just got ahead at the perfect time.

there you go again, 65 break and Robertson still looked more like winning before he cleared to get to the re-spot black which Stevens was never going to win, can't see him coming back from that but to be fair, he should have been at least 3-1 up at the interval which would have changed the result

                    • shocking organisation, does Eiran Williams think the audience at the Welsh open would understand a chinese ref telling a welsh man in mandarin to leave the arena?

whoever is tournament director for these comps in Asia needs help, my services are available...

trouble is I think that was the last paying spectator he just evicted

                      • What a marathon match. Quite a strong decider from Stevens, he got a couple of good pots and ultimately took advantage, while Robertson failed to pot a ball.

Still, Stevens definitely needs to raise his game tomorrow, particularly if he plays John Higgins.

                        • Mathew Shaking Stevens becomes Mathew Rocking Stevens in the last two frames. Well done. Happy for him. Its time he gets to win a ranking tournament or two ... he has always amazed me ... at times plays brilliant and then starts shaking when it really matters .. today was different though but then again he should have won 6-2 to be honest.

                          • Stevens definitely won't be the favorite in the final. We'll see how he'll handle the pressure. It wasn't a great game but it provided some suspense, obviously he's gonna have to play much better than he did today.
