    2013 Australian Open Quals

    Anyone watching this? I didn't realise it started straight after the Wuxi Quals. Some more new faces to me here, which is always good to see and of course you can't help but wonder which ones may be future world champs. :smile:

    I've managed to catch bit and pieces of it bud......

    I quite enjoy seeing Jimmy in action this afternoon, and I'm just watching Elliot Sesslor at the minute who seems to be a very tidy player!!

    What did you think of the flat 128 draw for Wuxi qualifiers Pat??

      I really hope Jimmy White wins against Yu De Lu and Ben Woollaston.

      I would just love to see him play in Bendigo!!

      p.s. I see Ashley Carty made 3 centuries (108,108 and 114) in his 5 - 4 first round match.

        Not really sure TBH. It does seem to be a generally fairer system, if you're a lower ranked player you can now get through to the last 32 in just 2 matches rather than having to potentially play 5, as Rod Lawler did in this event last year. But does that in itself produce more entertaining tournaments? Will it fast-track younger, perhaps more humgry players to the top? I don't know, I suppose time will tell.

        It does give me the chance to see more new faces though, which I like.

        How about you coomsey, what d'you reckon?

          I think I'm 60/40 in favour of the new format if I'm honest......

          I really enjoy seeing new faces coming through the ranks and getting a chance to play the top players and gain experience.....

          I feel for the top 16 to have to playing again back in those cubicles after they've had to do it for years to get where they are now, but as they say 'the cream should rise to the top'

          I think the real answer would be to have a even mix of flat 128 draws and top 16 going straight to the venue tournaments imo.....

              I think Mehta could do quite well when he gains more experience. I watched him go 2-0 up against Ding in the SWSA main arena in the Wuxi qualifiers, but he ended up losing 5-4.

              Mehta plays a very solid and precise game. I like that.

                I am going to be watching Jimmy White vs Yu De Lu. (Starts in 15 mins)

                That should be good fun to watch. Fingers crossed for Jimmy!
