    Cueman...I agree completely.

And yes Selby is getting chance after chance...but he does take them doesn't he...and that's what scary about him atm. Other players get chances but do not take them...and this is exactly the difference between a world class player like Selby and other players. A player like Ding should really clear up more frames, and especially against a top class player like Selby! You just cannot afford to do this against him. Creating his own downfall really...

Btw these eurosport commentators do talk a fair bit don't they

Good frame for Ding to win and of course a very important one. 4-3 is not bad at all...

Edit : oops forgot it's first to 5 frames

He still needed a miracle though and hasn't had a great run of the ball in fairness. Think Selby has it now, spoke too soon, Selby bottled that pink.

Selby isn't having to do much other than mop up Ding's mistakes, he must think its xmas every tournament the way everyone else is playing right now.
He's won three major tournaments already.

Long time ago now. I know he's won these events but people were questioning his chances of the triple crown and I have to say he's the most unlikely of those listed because he isn't mentally strong enough compared to the likes of Robertson, Selby, Murphy because those players are always in the business end of most the big events. Ding simply doesn't have their level of consistancy or ability to win when not playing at his best.

Great clearance from Selby to take the match. What comes to triple crown, Murphy is, IMO, most unlikely to complete it.

I think people forget that Ding is still only 25 years old, has plenty of time to improve his overall game and win the world!
Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning...

Selby is full of confidence right now. Don't think Ding did a lot wrong (except for the pink in the last frame). Ding is playing himself into good form and it wouldn't surprise me if he reached a ranking final before the end of the season.

                    • Ding just seems to be playing well but is unluckly more times than not I think, the commentator said he scored more points than Selby today and his pot success was about 93% when he was 3-1 down.

Selby can clear up well, i'll give him that. Felt a bit sorry for ding in the second frame when it looked like a re-rack and Selby tried to catch his eye Dings next shot was attacking to sort the situation out and he lost the frame pretty much from that.

                      • A couple of chances for some payback tonight... I assume it's going to be Robertson-Murphy on Eurosport, which is fair enough, although it could be that Selby-Hawkins ends up being the match of the round, considering how both players played in their previous match. With just the one table televised, there are some players who haven't been on TV yet, so it's kind of hard to call... But this is becoming a bit of a pattern in recent times, Murphy, Robertson and Selby reaching the business end of tournaments, while the other usual contenders such as Trump, Higgins, Ding, Maguire and Williams go out early.

Robertson has certainly had the measure of Murphy in recent times, beating him in three big matches in a row. He is also starting to play better in tournaments outside of the UK, so he is probably a slight favourite in this match. Having said that, Murphy will be determined to turn it around, and he is probably the hungrier of the two at the moment.

Stevens-Fu and Selby-Hawkins are repeats of two 1st round matches at the WC, matches with very one-sided scorelines, Stevens and Hawkins both winning 10-3. Obviously Selby wasn't really himself in that event, and Hawkins will be up against a very different player tonight. But Hawkins is also the player who has produced the best snooker on TV so far, similar to his Australian form, and I don't think he will be breaking down as much as Ding before frames are won. As for Stevens and Fu, well, Fu is always likely to play crap in 1st rounds and go out without a fight, but it's a different story playing him in the quarter-finals, when he is on the back of a couple of wins. I reckon he could outplay Stevens tonight.

Michael Holt will be looking for the biggest success of his career tonight, if he can reach a ranking semi-final for the first time. He was playing alright against Williams, but wasn't really put under pressure, so it's hard to say whether he would still be in the tournament if he was drawn in a different quarter. I think Carter has the class and the experience to take him out tonight.

I just hope it's not another early finish.

                        • So...Robertson - Murphy it is then. I'm rooting for Murphy to make it past the Aussie for once. Would be great to see him go on and win the tournament as well. Furthermore it would be nice to see Holt make it through to his first ever Semi.

                          Game on!

                          • Good for Murphy to win the 2nd frame and not go 2-0 behind against Robertson.

                            Holt 2-0 in front atm...

                              • Wow what a lucky break (so to speak) for Murphy to still go 2-1 in front after missing that easy red. Robertson really out of sorts so it seems...not taking advantage of Murphy's mistakes. Sloppy match so far...but I kinda like those
