Be careful, you'll have the Selby police after you in a bit.

I've said this before and although it doesn't make sense its the only way I can describe Selby's play. He plays to avoid defeat, not to win, its the only adage I can think of that sums up his play. I noticed quite a number of his games how many times he plays thin safety shots, he wants a tactical frame because its his way of trying to gain control. You watch Ronnie, Robertson, Higgins, they play attacking safety shots, the open the reds up because they are prepared to take a risk to score, whereas many of Selby's frames often lead to a protracted safety battle, reds ending up messy, colours off their spots etc. Its definitely a negative approach he takes, trying to force a mistake rather than take a chance of an open frame.

              • Great frame by Dott again. 3-1 up. Hope he pulls this off

                  • Yes great start for Dott. He played very well. Hoping for a 4-1 lead at least. Hoping for a comeback from Selby after that...and Dott winning 6-5 in the end I really need a close match once again after the last 3 matches being rather one-sided.

                      • Hopefully Dott can keep up the pace, good lead but it wouldn't be surprising if Selby starts grinding him down.

Yes. I think you are right. And the problem with that approach from a spectator point of view is that it's really boring. He may be number one but I really don't like the way he plays the game. Almost zero entertainment from my point of view.

He lets others play the game so he can pick the pieces up. He doesnt go out to play snooker and to win, he plays to pittle the opponent into a phase of boredom, refuses to take any form of challenging pots and instead aims for safetys so the opponent makes a mistake and he cleans the mess up with ease.

He'll never be remembered as performing anything special because all he does is play safety as oppose to any half challenging pots and it right pittles me off.
