In the end Higgins fell over the line. Bingham was very far from his best today.

I am amazed too. He was the best player in the world for 6 years from 2005-2011, no one could touch him, not even Ronnie. Now I feel I could beat him on one of my bad days.

Im interested to know if something happened to his old Northwest cue (the one he won all the world titles with). Him changing cues every tournament cant be good.
          wooooooooo snookerrr

I'm going to delete that match from my Tivo Box. I've never seen a pro miss so many balls today. Unbelievable.

Selby's tenth decider victory in a row at the Masters... He could have potted a couple of those reds towards the end to win a bit sooner, but he still played a pretty good decider, with some top safety when he needed it most. He will need to raise his scoring and potting game in the rest of the tournament though.

Credit to Mark Davis as well for battling all the way to the end. Well, maybe not all the way, because I certainly expected him to fight for four snookers with a red still on the table, but I guess he didn't really believe the match was still winnable from there.

Looking forward to Higgins-Bingham now.
in summary another ugly grind + time-wasting + gamesmanship to fall over the line

From where I was sitting in the crowd, Higgins seemed unhappy and in some way distracted from the get-go: he was sagging when things didn't go right, kept looking up to someone behind him(somewhere behind us) and after the match, seemed to make a geasture of instruction or acknowledgement to them, so evidently it's someone he knows.

Poor match in the end, and apart from the drama, I wasn't that impressed with the Selby match either.

Just boarded the overnight bus in Newcastle - London bound. Got all day tickets for tomorrow so hoping trump/fu/maguire/perry continue today's "drama" although perhaps with some better quality snooker! Time to try and get some sleep :/

poor play from both but devoid of negative, attritional play + time-wasting + gamesmanship + ugly grinding + stupid hateful expressions while the other player is making a winning break

I know you sometimes do his tips for John but unless he has had a new cue from Raymo its certainly different to the cue he used at the start of the season. Have you got anymore info on it only Raymo would usually post a pic on his FB page if he had made another cue for John.

Higgins wasn't great, but I didn't think he was all that bad either, compared to some of his recent performances. At least he had that good scoring streak in the middle of the match, and from his post-match quotes he seems very optimistic for the future. Selby is certainly very beatable on current form, but it will be a lot easier for Higgins if he can find a way to win frames quickly and cleanly, rather than getting into a scrap with him.

Fu against Trump next, is it? That has the potential to be the best 1st round match if both play their best. But then again, both can play some dreadful stuff at times as well, so hoping for the best...
