you should perhaps summise that jrc knows the grammatical rule, but chooses not to use it ? IMHO

He's lack of confidence and good results was evident in the last couple of frames, he showed some nerves. Reminded me of MJW couple of seasons back when he was losing deciding frames in the finals after being well in front. Anyway, the best match of the season so far.
He could have won the last three frames yesterday, but somehow Selby survived all of them. I don't think Higgins would have lost without those two kicks though...

Selby is a good player and proper grinder, but he is nowhere near the level of Higgins , Williams and Ronnie in their prime. When those guys were young they were winning matches by blowing their opponents off the table with their talent, not by wearing them down. Thats why they are multiple world champions.
A young Higgins would have won the match. Not trying to be negative or anti Selby, but the standard is not what it used to be when we had Ronnie, Williams, Higgins in their prime and also talents like Paul Hunter. Not to mention the great Stephen Hendry, wo would have kept Selby in his seat.
Yesterdays match was good to watch because of the drama, but lets face it, that was not high quality snooker like it should be.Box the chimp.

think higgins gets his own medicine nowadays
what he supposed to do to others especially against williams and ronnie, is now done against him which is fair
his choke reminded me a bit of ronnies two chokes against selby at the masters final 2010 und the welsh open final 08. he had in both chances to win. at the welsh he had a helaty lead in the penumaltie frame but somehow lost position on a red.

Arbs, be specific..... what cheating did he do in that match?!
Was it the cracking snooker that he laid behind the green?! If any other player had played this, then it would be viewed as a flashy trick shot. But because it's Selby you seem to have forgotten that he just played better stuff?!Steve Davis Technical Articles = https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...ilebasic?pli=1

it's a painful loss for higgins because he will feel like a man on the decline who can't do it any more.
the previous poster about the standards slipping is bang on. there was no fluency, an awful lot of bad misses and poor positional play. yes, it probably made the match more interesting but a peak higgins would have massacred selby on that form.Highest Match Break 39 (November 10th 2015)

it didn't remind me at all of the way ronnie chokes. i've seen a peak ronnie choke a few times - especially against selby but also think against dott in that semi final in the worlds when he had that awful session (also he choked a bit against higgins in the world championships) . i feel ronnie has improved this aspect of his game with dr steve peters.
i don't think higgins choked, i think it's just a decline of a great leading to a loss of confidence. there is a difference i feel. otherwise you will say stephen hendry choked in the 2000s. he didn't - he has amazing bottle - but he started to lose his confidence.

On today's matches. I fear O'Sullivan will most probably crush Walden rather easily. Walden just doesn't seem to have the capability to keep up with ROS nor the resilience to bounce back from his own mistakes.
Tonight's match on the other hand... that one could be a cracker between Robertson and Maguire. I feel Robertson will come out in the end, but I'm hoping it will be Maguire.
I'm hoping for a Murphy - Maguire or otherwise a Selby - Maguire Final on Sunday.Last edited by daffie; 17 January 2014, 01:03 PM.
