No. He gave it a good try though. 5 - 3 to Mags in the end.

To be honest Trump couldn't have had easier draw in this tournament. Against any proper player he would've been in trouble. He's been lucky in that sense. But the real test is still coming and it's interesting to see how he'll cope it.

        • They really have some crap nicknames when they introduce some of these players, "The Dragon" Ding Junhui, because he's from China? How incredibly imaginative. Mark "The Royal" King, ooh because his surnames King? That musta taken all of 5 seconds to come up with. Carter "The Captain"...bloody hell. Im sure im not the only one rolling my eyes at some of this, wouldn't be at all surprised if the players are as well.

All we need is a "Dark Destroyer" to round it off, hmm Rory McLeod possibly? Nah, more like the insomnia cure.

          • That don't bother me too much but i know what ya saying, but snooker players usually aren't that well educated so keep it simples for them eh...

I tell you what gets me more is listening to rob walker all wk introducing Judd as the player who re-invented snooker and all that BS.

            • Good line up for the semis, probably the best we've had for a few tournaments. Maguire will prove a tougher test for Trump as long as he can keep he doesn't blow up. Class player when he is on fire (ahem!!), but seems to lose his head too easily.

Ding vs Bingham will be another cracker!! Bingham has been been consistent for some time and is a gritty match player. Ding is maybe in his best form for a little while & I think he is gonna take some stopping to lift this title

Are you on a wind up or something? Could you be anymore degrading towards the other players and just what constitutes a proper player in your opinion?

He's had tests already, 3-1 down against the local favourite and 2 times ranking tournament winner Dale. Then he faced Higginson another former ranking finalist and certainly no mug and lastly Advani who had already beaten Murphy and Dott. Just because it looks easy on paper doesn't mean it has been and as the old saying goes you have to beat the player in front of you which Judd has done.

As any tournament progresses you expect tougher matches so in that context you are correct he will have a tougher match in the semi but Judd is a proven winner and you don't get to world no.1 without being able to reach the latter stages and win tournaments something he has been doing for the past 2 years consistantly.

He had a poor run for a couple of months and is now regaining confidence again, something all players go through. Even Selby, who you would have thought was god like, given how many have been lauding his success in the UK and Masters despite the fact he too had an easy draw and players did their best to throw matches away from in front. If he'd have played a decent player with some bottle, or better patience, in those matches he wouldn't have won either.

I think "the magician" Shaun Murphy gets on my nerves the most. It's just so incredibly generic, and the attributes you would associate with a magician don't suit Murphy at all. If Walker absolutely had to make up a nickname for him, I wish he would have gone with one of those wind or gun nicknames.

                    • is there no coverage at all from the bbc 1 or 2 for this event. I know its on wales channel but from memory they normally show the semi and final on 2 i thought. I cant find any details online nor if its on the red button.
I'm stuck in a hotel with no laptop so can't stream and was hoping to watch it. Not seen any of this week and be just my luck to miss Ding go and win it tomorrow.

First of all. Any of his opponents haven't been nowhere near their best, maybe "proper player" is a wrong expression. Let's say proper opposition. They didn't give Trump a game, if you like. That equals to easy draw. Secondly, especially, in the first few matches he was fed off but needed quite a few visits to take frames. This means that he must play better and, as I said, it's interesting to see how he's going to cope the semi as it'll be the first time in this tournament that he'll be really tested.

If this winds you up, I'm sorry, but this is how I see Trump's situation.

                        • Two interesting semi-finals today...

Ding v. Bingham: Bingham has reproduced some of the form from the start of the season this week, a solid high-scoring game, but maybe not quite at its most efficient. He took a bit of time to get going against Doherty, but eventually managed to take control. This is not a new situation for him anymore, having appeared at the business end of major tournaments on several occasions recently, and he doesn't really have a history of freezing up. Can he hold his own against an in-form Ding though? Ding has been the strongest scorer in this tournament, and the player who has been the most dominant so far, never really in danger of losing any of his previous matches. He knows he is likely to get a very "clean" game against Bingham, and Ding plays that sort of game as well as anyone on his day. He is not great when he goes a couple of frames behind, so it's important that he stamps his authority on the match as soon as possible. I can't think of any memorable matches between the two in the past, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. At this point, I think Ding is the favourite to take this title, and I think he should prevail today, around 6-3 maybe.

Trump v. Maguire: This could be a cracking match and the first really good evening session of the week. They've both reached this stage with some good snooker, but maybe not quite the kind of snooker that has won them titles in the past. Trump did well to put Advani under pressure yesterday, but he will need a bit more to do the same with Maguire, particularly as Maguire has a strong record against him. I think Maguire was always likely to prevail against McManus, although the match didn't go quite how I expected. Maguire took a couple of frames on the colours towards the end, but they could easily have gone to McManus, so it wasn't exactly convincing. I think Maguire has scored about as well as Trump, some good breaks here and there, particularly in straightforward situations around the black spot, but he doesn't seem to have that deadly touch in making breaks from nowhere or getting in with good potting, and that's something he needs if he is to really challenge for the title. The one thing he has though is a good record against Trump in the past, even in the more recent times since Trump has been a top player, so he knows he is very capable of taking him out. Hoping for a midnight finish here. If I had to guess, I would probably go with Trump tonight.

Should be a good day of snooker.

Could be because it looks like there are pidgeons and rabbits hidden in his clothing.
The jester from Leicester really gets to me though, like calling Dave Harold the bloke from Stoke.
