Great black. The balls were trying to give that frame to Barry, but Ronnie just wouldn't let it happen. Unbelievable. 10-7 is so much better overnight than 9-8.

Wow. What a frame. I thought Hawk could pinch it when he was in and piling up points, but in the end, there was all drama.
I feel for Barry, though. He had some very fortunate moments in this frame, yet, in the end, a couple of inches in the shot from blue to pink meant he lost the frame. That shot was beautiful on its own.

So, a fascinating first day. We couldn't ask for more, I guess.

That last frame was fantastic! Some brilliant safety play by Ronnie and some great pots under pressure. Ronnie's so mentally strong now, I don't know how you can defeat him.

Yep me too...it's very annoying. Like you say ROS' talent will give him a natural ability to play well, even when out for months at a time. I have far more respect for those who work hard all year long, travel many thousands of miles to overseas countries, and practice inbetween matches. BBC ofcourse needs to hype things up...it's the nature of the (tv) game nowadays...it's all part of 'the show'. I personally don't care for it. That's why I want (and pray ) for Barry to win...that and the fact that Barry is just such a nice guy...and a very good player to boot.

I can't say I don't agree. One just gets the sense it would mean more to Barry.

OK, hands up, whose 2013 WCs have been ruined by the hype surrounding Ronnie O'Sullivan?

Maybe ruined is too strong a word, but I'm certainly sick to the back teeth of hearing about it.

And would someone please explain why Hazel et al are constantly banging on about how amazing it would be if he were to win, simply based on the fact that he hasn't played competitively for the last 11 months. We're constantly hearing ridiculous claims like it being one of the most amazing stories in sport, unprecedented/unheard of achievement...

FFS! 'one of the most amazing stories in sport' Why the hell is it?? No one is more naturally gifted at this game than Ronnie - that's just a fact that few would bother to dispute - so why are they putting so much emphasis on the fact that he hasn't played for 11 months? So what??

I really am struggling to see what all the fuss is about.

When Higgins returned after a half year away from the table, he did almost the same. If I don´t remember wrong, he got to a PTC final, and then won the next ranking event he entered.
