Well played White, two good breaks in the last two frames. The best win of his career so far, and the first time he has really shown anything at a major venue.
It will be tough to continue the run however, as Mark Williams wasn't really good here, but I have a feeling Maguire just might be. White could certainly do with a bit more experience... He played some bad shots when frames went close, particularly when Williams required snookers. Missed escapes, unforced in-offs, stuff like that... Didn't cost him in the end though.
I have to admit that Michael White made the best crucible debut I've seen from anybody.
For a long time I was hoping Williams could be as consistent as Higgins and O'sullivan but well... I suppose people change in different ways.
I find it interesting that Williams seems like a 50 year old now whereas Ronnie could still run with the kids.
It's all about commitment. The drop-off in MJW's performance in mid 2000s was related to his approach towards the game and it's the same again. It generally reflects upon a player's face. You can read whether they are in a confident and ambitious mood or not for most part and sadly, MJW hasn't showed anything to suggest he's that way.
Well, I won't say he's done or something, but it'll never be as easy as it was. Then again, it was never easy to begin with.
Anyway, good win for MW. I've been waiting for a break-out performance from him and this tournament could turn into one. He has just beaten his idol player in the biggest venue of snooker, making it to the last 16 of the World Championship. There won't be the same amount of pressure on his shoulders past this point.
Mags isn't really the type of player who will try to get interested in digging out frames, so, he will need a good scoring performance if he wants to defeat him and progress further.
All the way Mark J!!
I understand nothing from snooker. - Dedicated to jrc750!
Meh, I wonder what Higgins is doing here. Every frame he is the first one on the board, every frame he misses an easy shot and leaves Davis an easy opportunity to win the frame. The real John Higgins would've won at least 6 out of the 8 frames at the first visit. Davis is very lucky to get so many opportunities...
