Is Dott even using the same cue? Im pretty sure it was an ebony butt with maple veneers with 4 lower ebony splices, this looks like ebony, maple veneers and rosewood for the lower splices.
it looked like ebony lower splices from the glimpses I got online.
Mc Manus up tomorrow, would like to see him advance to have an older face get a bit of traction in the tournament. The commentators are bound to mention that thing he does lifting his head on the backswing, seems none of them have ever asked why he does it so far.
Great win for Mark King, he really put Allen under pressure towards the end. It must be frustrating for Allen to lose in the 1st round for the second year in a row.
We've had a couple of upsets already, and I'm starting to get worried that this tournament might turn out similar to last year. Higgins, Williams and Allen all out, and Maguire is also in trouble. While the players playing the best snooker will always get through, I prefer the business end of a tournament to feature players who have a shot of winning.
I agree on this.

We still got Ronnie, Selby, Trump, Ding, Robertson & Murphy to name just big favourites. Williams wasn't a huge shock, he hasn't been playing well for some time, Higgins was more of a surprise as he has a good record at the Worlds but again he hasn't been in good for, Allen losing to Mark King was maybe the biggest surprise but King's play the final few frames was top notch. Still fancy Maguire to make a turn around though as 5-3 down isn't a huge deal

I know what you mean, but it's all part of the gradual changing of the guard, sooner or later one or more of these less fancied players will break through and establish themselves. And there's always the tantalising possibility of the fairytale rank outsider making it to and maybe winning the final, so I'm quite happy to see some unexpected results, can't play safe all the time. (sorry Daffie).
Anyway, don't worry about it, the final's going to be Osullivan v Selby, and it'll be a classic.

The fast and the furious,
The slow and labourious,
All of us, glorious parts of the whole!
Seeing how Dott won that last frame, it was obvious he was determined not to get embroiled into a late-night battle. That was a top-notch 100.
I wonder if it might spur him on to play like he did in 2010, when he was pretty much man of the tournament. It's pretty obvious that he hates being tarred with Ebdon's brush and when he does up his tempo he plays all the better for it.
That match that he's slogged through could turn out to be a blessing in disguise and he could be a tough man to beat.
After what happened Dott Vs Selby he was determined not to let it happen again. Selby just killed off that game leaving everything awkward, or as Dott said "I know Mark will say the balls went awkward, but he constructs the frames that way. And it was hard to get out of".

I'll take it.
Yeah, I don't mind an outsider or two going through, but I guess last year was kind of an extreme scenario when we had four quarter-finalists who weren't really seen as genuine contenders. That's a bit much for me. But at the end of the day, the players that get through are the ones playing the best snooker at this point in time, so I wouldn't trade them for anyone.

I agree, it's nice to see Dott like this, I admire his grit and his will to fight. His stats aren't bad at all, but as Scott Johnson said, stats are like a bikini, they show a lot but not the whole thing... He wasn't very clinical, his positional play was approximate, he made some nice breaks but the only frame he won in one visit was the last one. He can't afford to leave so many chances to Shaun Murphy. If he does, it'll merely be a walkover for Murphy. But hey, tomorrow's another day and long matches suit Dott very wel. The world championship is his tournament, he performs there like nowhere else. He'll give everything.
Nice to see him making a century anyway. He doesn't make much.

Nuff said! That match was a nightmare, the worst I've ever seen.
Here's what Dott said in his post-match interview :
"I'm looking forward to playing Shaun, he plays the game the right way and we'll both have a go at everything."
Guess he hasn't forgotten that match too

It is looking good for Ding at the moment. You would think that McManus won't pose him too many problems and if he gets past that, the same can be said about King.
Carter and Woollaston finishes tonight. If Carter gets through, you would think it is his best chance to beat O'Sullivan in a 'proper' game of snooker. Would also love to see Poomjaeng progress.
Also, one of my favourites, Fu is playing - rocks and diamonds.
