Is this Higgins loss to Mavis as big a shock as everybody is making out? Higgins has been playing poorly for several months, and Mark Davis is a solid player.

I was more surprised when Higgins lost to Steve Davis a couple of years back.

JH out of the way, ROS will make the final, the only major hurdle is trump/murphy in semis.

got all the outcomes right so far, with the exception of jack v barry game. i did imagine the walden v holt game to be a much closer game though.

the lower half is very interesting though. effectively you got selby, ding, mags and robertson fighting for that other semi spot. provided that ROS makes the final, 2013 final will be a classic whatever the outcome.

Here's what Dott said in his post-match interview :
"I'm looking forward to playing Shaun, he plays the game the right way and we'll both have a go at everything."

I know what you mean, but it's all part of the gradual changing of the guard, sooner or later one or more of these less fancied players will break through and establish themselves. And there's always the tantalising possibility of the fairytale rank outsider making it to and maybe winning the final, so I'm quite happy to see some unexpected results, can't play safe all the time. (sorry Daffie).

Anyway, don't worry about it, the final's going to be Osullivan v Selby, and it'll be a classic.

Strange to me that the Dott v Ebdon match changed referees for that extra session ?
Is that normal? I kind of thought that the referee stayed the same for the whole match.

King did well, plays a great game when the pressure is off, shows to me that they are all equally as good as each other talent wise but some just have a belief that the rest don't have.

John Higgins? too fat as predicted, Murphy? must have lost a pound or two leading up to the match but if he celebrated with a few burgers he will have his work cut out against a slimline Dott.

I thought the same but maybe the original referee was scheduled for a day off and with Michaela already there and up for a bit of over-time...

Here's one for the statisticians, just watched Stevens/Fu have a re-rack, yesterday Allen/King had two re-racks (IIRC) in their match, question 1) match with the most re-racks (WSC or anywhere), 2) tournament with the most re-racks (WSC or any)?

A few years back, I watched Peter Ebdon play Nigel Bond in a Crucible third round. They went in for an unscheduled third session. Fortunately, one of the other matches had ended something like 10-2, so they got in quite early. Whoever had refereed the end of the short session just stayed to do the end of Ebdon's match too, if I remember correctly.

I like the way Dott said he is looking forward to playing Murphy as Murphy plays the game the right way. A clear inference that he considers that Ebdon does not.
