Yes great stuff. But is Robertson in danger of becoming the new Ebdon? Taking 2 - 3 minutes on a shot and then completely butchering it is starting to become a regular habit with him.

I do hope Milkins wins this as mentioned previously, Robertson is starting to grind the game down. I still like him, but not as much as i used to.

So Hendry splitting the pack from the blue and making many frame clearances from such shots because he happened to get good position most of the time would make him choose to play that shot.
Meanwhile a player such as Marco Fu, who plays around the pack needling reds out one or two at a time, chooses to play this other more difficult, some would say dated, style of breakbuilding more suited to slow cloths and heavy balls.

So why do players like Fu choose to play this more difficult way ? surely with modern table conditions it is easier to split the reds hard, putting more space between them therefore making position easier to gain. Do you think that they have maybe learned over time that splitting the reds hard doesn't work as much for them as they get bad splits more often than not ?

Further to other answers, it may be that the decision rests on their confidence in executing the shot.

Fu may feel he doesn't have the cue-power to consistently get good results from the shot that Hendry feels entirely comfortable with.

As a comparison, there may well be a shot that I'm pretty good at - pots down the cushion maybe - while you're particularly good at cannoning balls out. O the black, I may decide to leave the last red down the side cushion, you may decide to try to take it out. Each has an element of potential 'luck' - I might miss the pot because it's a difficult one, you might nudge it but it not be on a pot. But each of us has chosen the shot on the basis of a combination of likelihood of success of the shot itself and also likelihood of the player himself succeeding.

Me too...I tend to find Neil's some times holier-than-thou attitude annoying and also he's gotten a fair bit big-headed after becoming World Champion..at least that's my perception of him. I liked his down-to-earth way before much better. Oh well...the trappings of success eh
