I am writing to offer to you some very good new ideas.

By using them, you will help make the world a better place. You really will.
Some of them are inspired by the relay runs, others by the royal rumble and the battle royals, others still are original concepts.

Here is a summary of these ideas - please ensure that they are passed around, discussed, and given a good chance of implementation.


I will need to spend a good half hour to type up / fully explain / hand over to you in a fair, complete, positive and clear way each/any of these ideas. For this reason, I must ask you to please specify which of these you would like me to formulate and send to you first?



Idea 1) 5-day Tournament idea (using formats other than the usual round of 16 - QF - SF - F format). Basic format: day 1 determines the preliminary top 10 through offering each player several opponents each in brief race to 20 points mini-frames and by converting each result into a score that determines which players survive to play in the next round. Day 2 has a similar quick competition for those who were not in the top 10 and a separate one for those who were. Days 3 and 4 have big multiframe matches each for the top 6 (playing in the champion's match, the number one contender's match and the avoid relegation into the pack match) and a mass-battle (of 20 on day 3 and 12 players on day 4) for a place in the top 6 on the following day. Day 5 has three big multiframe matches for the 1st, 3rd and 5th place and a mass-battle among the 10 best others for a place in the top 10 in the final standings.


Idea 2) 10-day Tournament idea (also using formats other than the usual round of 16 - QF - SF - F format). Basic format:

similar to the above but with special extra contests added in. As it will begin on a Friday and end on a Sunday, extra care is taken to ensure that there is lots of good action on the weekends and in all the late evenings. The format makes you focus on several battles for promotion/survival/progression at once.
The top six players after days 2, 3, 4, ... of play are in three special championship match, nr1 contenders match and elite relegation match while all others play in the mass battles for promotion.

Idea 3) Teams World Cup with one team per country. This will bring back to life the wonderful formats used in the 1990, 1996 and 2011 world cups, each of which were fantastic, worthy and unique events. Basic format: A record number of countries assemble and play in 4 groups (as in Thailand 2011). Then comes a play-off round of the top 8 in one pool and the next 8 (9-16) in another, and then a 4-rounds of team against team matches ladder finale to determine all the final placings.



Idea 4) Teams World Cup with with no obvious favourite team. Basic format: Each player has 3-5 miniframe (race to 20 points) encounters with 3-5 opponents from various other teams on Day 1. Day 2 has the same again but with the teams split into three levels of the top 40% - mid 30-% and lower 30% of teams separated out. Days 3 to 5 will feature a very clever and useful ladder format of evenly matched fixtures to determine each team's final place (with matches for the top spot considerably longer than the others) + an added all-stars teams contest for 6 specially assembled super-teams and two special singles mini-finales.
The teams taking part will include one team for each of England's top 5 local authority areas + a rest of England united team + separate teams for East and West Scotland, N Ireland, Rep of Ireland, Glamorgan, a rest-of-Wales alliance, team China, team Hong Kong, team Australia, team rest of Europe, team Americas and team rest of the world (or similar).




Idea 5) UK Teams Cup or European Teams Cup with no obvious favourite team.
Basic format:
The teams taking part will include one team for each of England's local authority areas
(up to a maximum 90 if all enter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._by_population)
+ separate teams for each of Scotland's local authority areas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottis...ncil_control);
the principal areas of Wales will also have their own teams each (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_l...areas_of_Wales),
+ there will be a team Northern Ireland, a team Rep of Ireland, a team each for Malta, Belgium, Germany;
a team rest of Europe, and a team of non-Europeans living in the UK (or similar).
Each player has 3-5 miniframe (race to 20 points) encounters with 3-5 opponents from various other teams on Day 1. Day 2 has the same again but with the teams split into three levels of the top 40% - mid 30-% and lower 30% of teams separated out. Days 3 to 5 will feature a very clever and useful ladder format of evenly matched fixtures to determine each team's final place + an added all-stars teams contest for 4-6 specially assembled super-teams and two special singles mini-finales.


Idea 6) League idea involving any of the above teams formats (or a specially designed 10-, 12- team or 14-team set-up), playing on two special weekends of every year. Just like in any top league, there are to be lots of home team against away team snooker events to be held at the same time, allowing the people of each county a chance to cheer on their local heroes. A clever rankings and opponent allocation system that I may explain later is used, ensuring evenly matched encounters with minimised travelling distances. Each encounter is worth a total 300 ranking league points, which could be split in an infinite number of ways between the two teams, depending on the exact final score outcomes of the 9 round-robin race-to-20 battles (worth 20 points each), the 2/3 frame relay match (worth 60 points in total), and the elimination match (also worth 60 points in total).

Thanks. I hope they milk it for all it's worth. Last year felt really rushed. A nice long intro, with each session having the smoke + 'bouncy' music before extended personal intro's for each.

Then, when the final is over, they should go back to the studio and review the final and event as a whole. That's what other sports do. In snooker, the tv program is finished 5 minutes after the final ball is potted.
