          I have heard back from Mike
          He states that he was informed about the game from a contact that emailed him back in 2005; he found a poorly translated (from Brazilian) and used that until Oct 2008 when a player of the game (Guilherme Mauricio) helped him correct the information.

          Often just called Sinuca.

            I managed to track down the official rules of Sinuca Brasileira, dated 13 March 1999, published by the ConfederaĆ§Ć£o Brasileira de Bilhar e Sinuca. I'll be looking for someone to help me with the translation into English. I've created a topic for the search.
