  • 1971/72 Home International - Scotland v Ireland

I'm going nuts - I just cannot find the report of this match in Snooker Scene. Can someone tell me which month it appears in? Thank you. Scotland won 13-5.

I’ve got all Snooker Scene magazines and a few World Snooker’s. Any idea of the dates it was played?

        look at 1971_11 World Snooker. p. 04
I think this is the tourney you are looking for.

        also 1971_11 Billiard&Snooker p. 04

both of these have Scotland winning 12-6

        1972_08 Snooker Scene p. 12
        has Scotland beating Ireland 13-5

Ronnie Harper writes in the “Ireland’s Saturday Night” on 18th March 1972 that next week Ireland travel to Edinburgh for an international snooker match against Scotland. That’s the only mention of the match that came up in my search of the British Newspaper Archive. In Clive Everton’s Guinness Book of Snooker (1981) it records Scotland beating Ireland (13-6) in Dublin! I wonder if this book has the years mixed up… as it would suggest further down…

If, indeed the match took place towards the end of March 1972 it may, or may not have made the print deadline for the first ever Snooker Scene, which was April 1972. That historic inaugural edition was largely taken up with the 1972 World Professional Championship final between Higgins and Spencer.
It does report that England crushed Scotland 16-2 but this result is down in Clive’s Guinness book as season 1972-73. ???

There’s nothing in May or June editions either so it looks as though it was never reported.

Ahh yes — good spot! It also says in that report that it’s the inaugural series (was it 1970-71 played late or 1971-72 played early?) yet in Clive’s Guinness book, Scotland didn’t feature!

I think dates are off, but I can not find the actual Scotland/Ireland match anyway - quick search
nothing on BNA either - also quick search - more focussed dates will help

Clive Everton probably backdated these following their being regularly held in the autumn. Bit frustrating but there you go. Will be in a newspaper somewhere!!! Thank you both for looking.
