From memory, during the qualifiers in Blackpool, that would take the entire summer and applied to all tournaments, his performances were so good that he shot from number 800-something to 57.
I'm only relying on memory and can't check right now but I don't suppose I'm very off.S.P.I.L.F.

Mark Williams and John Higgins also made their debuts that year along with Stephen Lee. It was Lee who was the second best "Rookie" ranked 101 with Williams 119th and Higgins 122nd.sigpic

Yes he did not have a 'rank' because it was his first season and so he had no ranking points from the previous season to be considered.
For some reason, the players in 1993 were seeded, so the figure 415 above has to be taken as correct. But in fact, he was in the same boat as a couple of hundred other players as not actually being ranked.
