  • Canadian Club Masters - Alex Higgins v Ray Reardon

Just found another little gem of a video, which was only put on youtube 3 days ago of Ray Reardon v Alex Higgins in the final of the Canadian Masters from 1976, which incidentally Alex went on to win. On the way of making it to the final Alex had to beat Graham Miles and John Pulman..

    Enjoy..

Thanks for that Spike ... Reardon looks pure class as ever. I've never noticed before how much Jamie Copes looks like him .. and I don't just mean the elbow sticking out the side, that has been commented on lots of times - I mean his pace around the table, his drop-down-on-the-shot, left eye dominant .... everything.

I did - cheers Spike - and strange to see how close the spectators used to be to the players - even Alex had to sit amongst them

Yeah, seemed to be quite the norm back in those days.

For anyone who does not know this event was held at the Northern Snooker Centre Leeds..

Spot on. If only Jamie Cope could learn a bit about safety from Reardon, he would take the last step into the absolute elite.

Magic! Two of my faves from when I was still (ok, maybe) a skool-boy.
                      Bela Lugosi and Georgie Best!

This match arena at Northern Snooker Centre is still top class. It now has the World Championship final table (riley Aristocrat) from a few years ago, sadly the carpet has been replaced!

I'm playing there this weekend in the English Pro-Ticket Tour event, so hopefully I'll get to play on it in the final!!!

A h hhh... it's like deja vu all over again!
What a time. What a setting.
The intimacy. The smoking. The drinking. The fashions.
The players wore ties [ not Alex of course ] and vests, the audience ladies wore dresses,
the men, suits with white shirts and ties and even their socks matched the referee's gloves!
But not everyone... the long-haired bearded hippy at 1:41 could have been me!
And... there was nary a "Ray is a Vampire" T-shirt to be seen.
Nor one that said " I <3 SNOOKER" even though everyone did...
Politely. [ not Alex of course ]

                              Props spike!
