The 1936 championship featured some remarkable matches, for contrasting reasons.
Joe Davis beat Tom Newman 29-2, but was actually a whitewash since he achieved a winning lead at 16-0.
Meanwhile Willie Smith needed to win all six frames of the final evening to beat Sidney Smith 16-15 from 10-15 down at the end of the afternoon.

Frame 2: 46-60. O’Donnell made 12 twice in leading 46-40 on colours. Lee claimed all the colours up to the pink, which he fluked for the frame.
Frame 3: 58-48. Lee made 17, O’Donnell 24 to lead 50-36 on colours. O’Donnell took yellow, Lee green to blue before O’Donnell doubled the pink for frame.
Frame 4: 69-61. Lee made 16 and O’Donnell 15, 13 and 18 to lead 55-49 on the green. Lee gained a foul, O’Donnell took green and Lee brown before O’Donnell got blue and once again doubled the pink for the frame.
Frame 5: 51-62. Lee made 34 to lead 31-55 on the colours. O’Donnell cleared to blue and later took the pink, but Lee won on the black. 3-2
