I think he had an argument with a bus in about 1981, ended his playing career.

Wiki says "Spencer's later career was blighted by the ocular version of myasthenia gravis (with symptoms including double vision)." and that he died in a hospice from stomach cancer at the age of 70.
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
          I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

He was talking about John Pulman, not John Spencer. John Pulman is sitting in the audience in that video of John Spencer vs Ray Reardon.

The stat that always impresses me is when he made 3 centuries in 4 frames against Warren Simpson in the '71 World Final. To do that in a World Final today would be a fantastic feat but back then, with the old Crystalite balls and thicker cloth it must have been out of this world.
John Spencers' "wiki" page is a very good read. Between 1969 and 1985, Spencer had won 26 events from 38 finals (from Pot Black to World Championships). He made the highest break in the 1969 WC(97), 1973 WC(139), 1977 WC(135) and 1978 WC(138). I have his book from 1973 in which he says he had his first century break within a year of playing (a 115 aged 15) and after having a dabble at billiards (before his first snooker century) made his first billiards century just 5 weeks after starting playing it!

John Spencer was a great snooker player. He often gets overlooked when people talk about the greats of the game. That's why I made this thread. He had a lot of cue power.

My mistake . . . still the wiki page is a good read.
