I'd be interested to know more about various oddball "World" titles played in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The Matchplay from 1952-57 is well documented as are the Norwich Union Opens of 73 and 74 and the Matchplay of 76. Does anybody know much about any of the tournamnents listed below or can anybody add any others?
Feb/March 1958 in Canada : Fred Davis beat George Chenier, some sources call it a World Championship
June 1960 in Australia : Fred Davis won a "World Open" - other competitors were F.van Rensburg (SA), McConachy (NZ), Jones (India), Simpson, Squire, Burles and Harris (all Australia).
April 1967 : Rex Williams beat Fred Davis 27-24 for "World Open"
July 1968 in Australia : Eddie Charlton beat Rex Williams 43-40 for "World Open"
August 1972 in Australia : Eddie Charlton beat John Pulman 11-10 in a "challenge round" and then beat Alex Higgins 19-17 in what The Times described as the World Professional Championship.
