Hi folks,
I've just found the forum and am enjoying a good look around. Great site!
I am currently researching my family tree and know that my late great grandfather James "Jock" Baird, a Scotsman, was a professional snooker referee at the Leicester Square Hall in the late 1940s/early 1950s. He lived at the time in Erith, Kent.
I am led to believe he knew and refereed the stars of the day including the great Joe Davis.
If anybody held any records from the era which might include a mention of a referee by the name Baird (not to be confused with John Logie Baird, who I believe filmed some live snooker at Leicester Square hall in the 1950s), or could point me in the direction of any individual or organisation who might hold any historical archives which might be helpful, I would be most grateful.
I am also looking for photographs from Leicester Square snooker hall in the hope I might spot Jock in the background - might be tricky as he was only 4ft 11ins tall!!
Thanks for your time.
Kind regards,
Jamie Yates
