Something else cropped up in a match. I really should know this stuff after playing for so long!

Just colours left from green. Green is over the pocket, a foul leaves white behind brown full ball. Can you nominate brown, use it to knock green in and then pot the brown?

If so, what happens if you knock both in?

    Thanks

Yes you can nominate the Brown as Green and you can use the Brown to knock the Green in.
    Scenarios:
Green potted - scores 3, Green stays off the table, Brown now ball on.
Nominated Brown potted - scores 3, Brown spotted, Green now ball on.
Green and nominated Brown both potted - scores 3, Green stays off the table, Brown spotted, Brown now ball on.
    Up the TSF! :snooker:

Wow! Never knew that and don't think I've ever seen that happen. I don't suppose it's a very common occurrence.

Seen it (with Mark Williams I think). Not exact same tho. Different balls involved. Also seen something similar with pink and black remaining. Very unusual. Was in the club and created mayhem. Most folk didn’t know the rule. Even a couple of ex pros. Love these obscure rules.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I can just imagine quoting the rule in that situation and getting told to FRO! 🤣

            Thanks Dean

That's annoying. I was in this situation but put the guy back in as green was over the pocket, but blue was close to it so it wasn't worth taking pink or black as free ball.

I could've nominated brown, rolled it into green to pot it then potted brown and blue

does the same apply Dean when reds are on? i.e. can you nominate a colour and plant it onto a red ball to pot it? Also if both colour and red go in the pocket is it two points or one? Thanks!

The Mark Williams one I was thinking of was that he planted the black onto a red which was hanging over the pocket. Score one point. Dean can correct me here but I think if the black had followed the red in it would be two points scored. Clearly black would be re-spotted.

Thanks Nifty, yes it would make sense that it's two points as the nominated ball becomes a red in that situation. Cheers. 😉

Red on, free ball, you can hit the nominated colour ball onto a red to pot. 1 point.
If the nominated colour ball also pots you score 2 points (eyes, as above, for that stroke the colour ball is classed as a Red) and colour ball is spotted. Red of course stays off the table.
If just the nominated colour ball is potted, score 1 and ball spotted.
In all cases the next ball on will be a colour ball.
