  • Lifting weights+ snooker

Ive been playing snooker quite good in the past few weeks and was surprised to see how good i am getting everyday playing with focus and determination. So i thought about getting a little muscle on me thinking it would make a huge impact on my game just because im lifting weight and bla bla
turns out, this is my 3rd week
my whole stance, ball selection, placing cueing literally everything motion has ended. Im struggling to pot and aim and cue at the same time.
Any tips for how can i get back to my old game?
please dont say stop working out cause its the only things i like after snooker.

Just keep at it. I'm also in a similar position and found that I am more fatigued and have less stamina/concentration.

But as with anything, if you are introducing change, your body needs time to adapt so I wouldn't worry about it. Just allow your body to get use to it.

get yourself a 100 kg cue
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

so true man it just drains your stamina after 1 frame and thats it. Youre no longer putting effort in any shot , just playing it and mostly avoiding the long shots or the ones that need power cueing . Thanks alot

You might find it's actually nothing to do with the weightlifting - just that you've stopped doing some basic habit or you've introduced a bad one.

I've been playing for around 15 months and I regularly lift weights - the only time I've ever found it's impacted me is when I've tried to play fairly shortly after a biceps workout and my arms were still pumped which led to me holding my cue too tightly.

Indeed unless you're physically tired from a workout then it may actually help if it's suitably relaxed you.

I am finding though, that as a relative new player, my focus over the last few months has been trying to establish a consistently straight cue action and how this needs to vary when playing different type of shots and from different positions on the table (also trying to transfer it from practice to frames I'm finding quite a struggle...). However for whatever reason at various intervals I'll find myself dropping some good basic habits and have to try to examine what I'm doing wrong (thankfully there's a lot of decent players around my club that are quite supportive and happy to offer tips, etc).

Snooker is mostly a pyschological game and so if you've convinced yourself you aren't playing well because you've linked it to lifting weights then that will effectively be the case - however I'd say in real terms it's unlikely. My advice would be to put that out of your head and re-examine your cue action and approach your shots with your body relaxed.
