  • Unusual Foul

I wonder if anyone has given four away like this before. It was a new one on me.
Red was ball on. I was in a Chinese snooker so could only hit the top of the white. I miss cued but still hit the red. My opponent said foul as I’d hit the cue ball with the ferrule.
Technically correct as for a shot to be legal you need to hit the cue ball with the tip. I didn’t argue but did wonder how I’d managed to propel the cue ball forward using the ferrule.

Hmmm, odd one. I think for it to be a foul you would have hit the cue ball with tip first but then as the tip slides over the top of the white the ferrule comes in contact too probably causing a double hit. Your oppo must have bionic sight to see all that in a millisecond...

Didn’t argue. Opponent was ex-pro. In any case in matches where there’s no ref the non-striker is the ref.

The Rules do state that it must be the tip to contact the cue ball from a Stroke (proviso of the In-hand moving the cue-ball position with the shaft)
but to call a foul on this situation is - well - a tad severe.

Did you make a real hash of the stroke and it was blatant that the ferrule touched the cue ball?
from your description it probably did not as you say the cue ball still hit the ball-on.
        Up the TSF! :snooker:

Dean. Probably was a bit of a howk (Scottish word) which is normal for me when hampered. In too much of a rush to get the shot over and done with.

What most people don't realise is that technically a miss cue ends in most cases in a foul .. of course it is not treated as a foul because it cannot be seen without a highspeed camera
