I still think it's a pointless discussion, but it's continuing so I'll put in my tuppence worth; nature has to be counted and also results, so I go for:

Walter Lindrum, the best, most dominant player the world has ever seen.

I wouldnt call it pointless Keith personally but Ronnies ambedextrous skills alone decide this is his favour. It all just comes so natural to him.

I know what you're saying, however, he just uses his ambidextrous ability for some shots; he hasn't used his left hand to dominate the world of snooker outrageously as Walter did, so that alone negates what you said. However, no matter what I say and what the record books say, you're still going to say Ronnie, wildJONESEYE will still say Stephen, someone else'll say Alex etc., that's why it's a pointless discussion.

Yes we have our preferences. Walter dominated the game left handed..So he was predominantly right handed was he? But swapped to left to rule the world??

Exactly that is why is not a pointless discussion. Because everyone is trying to bring something new to this thread and this support the player they think is themost gifted. This kind of thread is good for a forum not the ones in wich everybody agrees on the issue and we have 10-12 posts.......its all about debating and trying to come up with valid arguments to sustain your opinion.

When he was a boy he had an accident and lost the tip of his index finger and so learnt to play left-handed!! Look him up on google or something, it's enlightening!

He had an older brother who played also, who became Australian champion before Walter participated in the championship but was nowhere near as good a player; Walter refused to play in the Australian championships, despite being the best player, as he wouldn't take the title from his brother. Not just a player and a legend, a true gentleman also!

I stand corrected concerning the validity of the discussion, but not about the idea of the thread: how can we know which player is the most naturally talented? As I said before, we never saw them before they had practised and learnt to play, so it's an impossible discussion! However, which player is the best in your opinion and why? Now, that's a thread!

An off topic question...but still deserves an answer :

Stephen Hendry...because hes won all there was to win.....

EDIT And i cannot see anyone getting close to what he achieved.

Lol! Stephen deserves maximum respect for all he's achieved. But Walter rules, pal!

                        Hi Keith
i must admit as a WL fanatic i was severly tempted to say him but as we were talking about snooker players i must admit i am now tending to vere to towards Jimmy, with the passage of time one forgets how incredible he was at his best, if he had had the mental strength of Davis he would have been unbeatable in the 80's.

What we sometimes forget about these 'natural' players is the sheer amount of practice they did at one or another time, As a boy and young man Jimmy, Alex, would have lived on the table.

The immortal Walter Lindrum had practice routines imposed on him by his Father that would have killed most other players.

One of my other Hero's is Beethoven and he along with another 'natural' named Mozart practiced in effect for years and years as young boys, you cannot do it without years of hard work
                        Cheers Bbg

some of the stuff about his practice routines i think is not exactly true it comes from a book by a guy called andrew ricketts i think, but i have seen interviews with lindrum that tell a different story.

Drago has already stated that the reason he plays so fast is that when he was younger, playing with his friends at the local club in Malta. They would play as fast as they could to get the most amount of game time out of the coin operated lights.

why is Walter Linderim in the discusion.....

he was a billiards player are we going to look at willie mosconi or effren reyers next ?

on a snooker table who in youre opinion was the most natrual talented player ever?

                              my opinion is Ronnie O'Sullivan.

sorry but us Walter Lindrum fans are a bit crazed!

not sure whether he has been mentioned but John Spencer must have been a fantastic natural talent, long ago i recall reading his own snooker book and he mentioned he scored a century break after playing only 6 months! it took me 10 years to score my first 50 break!!
