  • Changed tip 3 times and misscue with all of them, other cues no issue?

    Hey,

I was hoping for some help hehelpI changed my tip on the 2and of August due to a broken tip, since then it is impossible to play a screen shot without misscue. At first I thought it was my technique or the tip was too hard, but I've changed the tip 3 times now and there is no change. I also got my dad to play with the cue and he also had the same problem, and neither of us normally misscue. So I know its not technique.

If I use a club cue it doesnt misscue on the same shots.

I've tried different tip shapes too, even went back to loctite gel glue, as I had used a different glue, but resulted are the same.

I've played for a couple of years and have never had misscues like this,

Any screw shot or extreme side or hitting off cush and you get a misscue.

My dad has been playing for years and says hes never seen this happen and cant understand it.

even if you just hit the cue ball off the cushion with bottom it misscues/kicks

I dont know what to do now, since I've changed the tip 3 times and isn't fixing the issue, what else could it be? Ferrule doesnt seem to have any problems. It's not technique as it only does it with this tip and not with club cues, and my dad gets same reaction with my cue, so something isn't right with it. I'm also pretty sure it isn't the tip or way I've fitted it since I've fit a few before with out issues and I've tried 3 different tips, currently has an elk on it, it was an elk before that and a century medium soft before that.

My dad says it's like theres no tip, like it's the ferrule hitting the ball.

I'll include some pics of the tip I put on yesterday, for now I will have to use club cue or a 20 pound argos cue I have, which has a tip I put on, which doesn't have these issues.

My first thoughts are it is all in your head, well, if it was not before then it is now

What make of tip did you put on?
Is it a change of make from the previous tips?

I recall years ago I tried a laminate tip (can't recall make) and hated it from first stroke - took it off that evening
      Up the TSF! :snooker:

I thought so too, but my dad came and tested it and it was exactly the same for him, got over 100 points a frame against him because he miscued so many times with it.

But we both dont misscue with club cues or the cheap cue I have, which I also retipped,

It's an elk master, one before was also an elk and one before was a century, all behave he same, its something to do with the cue, tip his been ruled out.

        Cheers.

Have you tried another brand of chalk? Does the tip have any moisture etc?

Make sure the tip is fitted properly if not already done. Try to use another make of tip/chalk like BD+, Traingle etc.

I've retipped it 3 times now mate, this one looks really good. I've fit all my tips before with no issue. I've tried a century and two elks.

Only thing i havent tried is different chalk

I have a cheap cue, which I fitted the tip on ages ago, the tip fell off one day, I glued it back on, and even with that cue i can screw back no problem,

Theres something strange going on with this cue, it makes no sense

Make sure the joints, ferrule, weight inside are not loose and there are no cracks in the wood..

Are you using a pencil sharpener to do your tip?
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

I've checked ferrule a couple of times and the joint seems sound,

I'll check for cracks in the wood, I'll have a close look

I sand bottom of tip to flatten + remove chalk

Cut off old tip, put razor flat on top of ferrule and spin to remove glue

Gently sand top of cue, very gently

                            Add glue, add tip,

                            Press cue onto floor

                            Pencil sharpener until flush

Dome it with curved tip shaper thing

Then I go over side of tip and ferrule with a really fine paper, virtually 0 abrasion

I left light Marks on the cue, using the pencil sharpener without tape a couple times.

I'm not saying this is the right way and feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong, but I have fit all my tips this way and never had this weird misscue problem

Just your tip in the top pic looks slightly coned instead of straight.
Put your finger and thumb either side of the tip if you can rock it, take it off.
without seeing your technique it's hard to give advice , is it power screw you are struggling with as normal ,say two or three foot screw back shots can be done with any old tip and yours look OK for that.
