I remember playing snooker as a boy where we played a rule that if
you potted the white and the white is placed in the D, that you could not play backwards for brown, blue or pink. I cannot find this rule anywhere. Have
the rules changed or was this never a snooker rule?

You can play the cue-ball in any dirction from within the 'D'. In billiards, however, the ball must cross the baulk line with the first stroke.
You are only the best on the day you win.
