Tried the Phoenix M tip on a spare cue but decided to see if I could transfer it over to my playing cue but it didn't go well!

Tried to sand the bottom to ensure it was flat and the surface just seemed to disintegrate. Perhaps the paper I'm suing is a little too rough so a word of caution is to use a very fine sand paper to rough up the base.

Had to bin it in the end but may give them another try next time as I just put a new MW tip on now

Do any other tips have a tendency to spread over the ferrule after the first few hours play? The last few Elks ive had have done it so need to trim the sides to get it flush again. Not a big issue as i carry a stanley blade and it takes seconds but wondering if all tips do this.

Got a new box of elks to use now so will try and find a hard one (using the parris method as shown on youtube) and see if it does the same.

This usually happens more with pressed tips than laminated as they are usually softer. Softer the tip the more prone to mushrooming usually.

i have a kamui mh tip 9.5mm. but i must say i am not liking this tip at all so far. after all the good reviews about how much screw, side and top you get, i must say i.m finding it hard to get any cue ball reaction compared to a talisman, elk and a pro granite. the tip has had about 12 hours play so far and think it may be coming off by the end of the month!!! chalk does not appear to be staying on very well either. am really gutted as i had high hopes of liking this tip. might go back to elk i think!!!

same thing for me . i ordered 2 days ago a phoenix black tip , hope it's gonna be different . i tried so many tips that i can't even name them all but it always ended the same way : going back to elkmasters ones
the only thing that annoy me is reshapping them all the time , and having to change tips really often
but in the end that's no big deal as they are ten time cheaper than kamuis , talisman or layered tips in general
mike wooldridge super tips were in fact were the only ones close from elk sensation , maybe too much soft

Played another 4.5 hours last night (high break of 38..woohoo! ) and i burnished the sides with the back of some sanspaper and it removed/compressed most of the mushrooming.

The tip now feels as it should and its only taken 9 hours play! :snooker:

Think i might either cut the tip in half or just sand it down so its much smaller when i goes on next time.

Can I ask where you got the tip from? I've spoken with ADR about Kamui's, and he won't stock/sell them due to the very high number of fakes (yes, fake tips... whatever next?). The one's I've used on my normal cue have come from the Riley's online site, they are the only (I think) official seller in England listed on the Kamui site. Make sure you order them through there. I did buy some from ebay and have one on my current (spare cue) which doesn't seem as good. It does the job it is supposed to, and still feels better than an elk, but it seems to get a little less grip on the white, thus reducing top/screw/side compared to the one I got from Rileys.
                  Just a thought.
If you want to play the pink, but you're hampered by the red, you could always try to play the brown!

I've read so many mixed reviews of the Kamui's that it has put me off to try them.

Could it be fakes or could it just be inconsistent manufacturing..... No one seems to know for sure?

Unfortunately at Ā£10-Ā£12 a pop is it worth risking..... I'm still on the fence

Have used a 10mm elkmaster for years but have recently tried a pro granite and a laminated tip of some make or other. Found the pro granite too hard and the laminated tip just didn't hold the chalk so have gone back to elkmaster. I am the only bloke I know who prefers the feel of a brand new tip, once they harden up they come off, go through about twenty tips a year so kamui's are out of the question even if they're good.

As I put in a previous post it takes over 9 hours of play to get my elks to feel right.

Laminated tips didnĀ“t hold the chalk very well because the layers are to thin.
If you shape the tip nicely round you will have two layers on the surface. The thin film between those layers on the surface is the problem.
Another "problem" is the color of laminated tips. Elkmaster tips are blue and the chalk is green. Thats not much contrast.
Kamui is black or brown, there is more contrast with the chalk. You will see it much better if the chalk is completely on the surface or not.
