  • Snooker Cue question

I have heard that it is possible to purchase a small weight that han be screwed into the butt of the cue. Does anyone know where these can be purchased from?

On eof the problems of course is that the threads on cues vary from make to make. I wouldn't know how to verify what mine is. I have a Master Cue Pro-Butt.

    Many thanks.

Greenbeize sell various types I believe. If you ring Stu with your cue make I’m sure he’ll be able to help you. Google butt protectors and you’ll find other ones.

Lolz yes, that could prove dangerous ⚠️

had a Quick Look on GBL and they are out of stock for Mastercue 5oz weights so best advice as you say give Stu a bell.

I have sent an email to Greenbaize to see what they can offer. Thank you for the suggestion.

As often seems the case, due to old age I have shrunk somewhat and am no longer 5ft 61/2 inches tall and am now slightly less that 5ft 5inches! I am thinking that I might just treat myself to a new cue and I am thinking that rather than stick with a 58" cue I might well do OK with one that is 56" long. Any ideas what would be the ideal length for someone of my size.

I do know that having a cue that is slightly heavier than my current which is 18.6 ozs is the way I would like to go. I'm thinking 20 oz (thoughts?)
If I'm prepared to spend £4 to £500, to include three extension pieces which I have at the moment, what would be your recommendations please?
        Thank you.

Interesting thoughts Bluey, always nice to have some fun with a nice new cue, but it's difficult for us to know what would be best for you mate. If I assume that you as a senior player, play mostly weighted positional shots, just rolling balls in then maybe a slightly heavier cue and shorter length could be a good combo for you. If however you still like to play power shots then the weight may work against you and cause off centre strikes from additional unwanted side etc etc..

At the end of the day a bit of trial and error with another cue can be great fun and there's always eBay to sell that cue on should things not work out. 😉

I can highly recommend a Maximus cue, as I have used one in the past and have several friends whom play with them and everyone I have ever seen and picked up has been top quality.

Cue crafty, many thanks for your input. You are absolutely spot on with your assessment of the way that I play. "play mostly weighted positional shots, just rolling balls in"
The only time that I play a shot with a bit of power is when the object ball is an umissable pot into a baulk pocket and I need to get down the length of the table to keep the break going.

Ok, no problem and thats good in that case however I would struggle to recommend going as high as 20oz, I feel if you go up to 19 - 19.5 that will still feel much much heavier anyway and be enough. It becomes a big thing at that weight to really let "the cue do the work" i.e. cradle the butt in your grip. Like our Fathers used to tell us when we were boys and using a saw for the first time.... Let the saw do the work!! 😉

Looks nice. I've been happy with my Maximus. If you contact Stu at Greenbaize he will test hit it for you and let you know how it plays. He's very honest, even if it loses him money.

Yes, I had the Immortal model and it was a good quality solid striking cue. The specs sound good too, I like the Balance point at 17 that should give the cue a nice bit of forward weight.

I have had my Maximus Premium for about 2 years and I am extremely happy with it, they are fantastic cues.

I have been in touch with GreenBaize and they tell me that the Maximus cue comes with some sort of coating that can be left on or, it can be removed so that the cue can be cared for by applying linseed oil (I think he said).

Anyone got any thoughts on keeping the supplied finish or would you have it removed. They said that they will remove it for me FOC and will also provide me with a small quanitiy of said oil.

andycam, what did you do when you bought your Maximus?

The shiney coating can look nice but I find it can get sticky on a hot day. Prefer the oil finish.
