I have actually refinished mine, using a grain filler and then using q gel and q lac, and it looks fantastic. I had a habit of cleaning it periodically with a rung out baby wipe which obviously diminishes the oil finish over time, so needs topping up with oil/wax.

Update for you chaps. I went ahead and purchased the maximus Immortal 56" cue that I provided a link to at #8 above.
I've been using it for a week now and I have to say that I am extremely pleased with it. I've had a few breaks in the high 20's and so I am hopeful that once I'm well settled with it that bigger breaks will come.
Thanks to all for the input/help/guidance. As always, much appreciated.

Hi again chaps, further to my recent purchase of a Maximus Cue.
I love the feel of the cue, it has certainly helped being 2 inches shorter than my previous one.
I checked with Green Baize and asked if they knew what tip was fitted to the cue and they said that maximus usually fit Elkmaster medium hardness. I have been playing with the cue for a few weeks now and I am finding that the tip seems to be particularly hard. Other than actually changing the tip, is there anything that I can do to 'soften' it up a little?
I know that I have read on here that if you buy a box of tips, they won't necessarily be the same throughout the box.
I may end up having to change it anyway I suppose. I tend to use Century G3 or Mike Wooldridge tips.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Yes the Elkmaster tips these days do seem to go hard quick, I stopped using them a few years ago now due to this.
A spike tool, will help soften it up for a session, but generally once you start doing this, you need to do it every session you play as it beds back in quickly.
The Wooldridge or the G3 will be better options longer term.
All the best.⚪ 🔴🟡🟢🟤🔵💗⚫🕳️😎

I switched to Century and really liked my First G2, the second one really wasn't great, didn't keep it's shape for very long and needed a good few frames to bed in. I'm currently on G-Spin medium (https://markwilliamssnooker.com/prod...n-medium-tips/) which is playing the same as the G2 but none of the misshaping issues. Really like these tips.
