  • Case question “Not for 3/4 cue”

Started playing snooker again with a good friend of mine so I thought I’d pick up a cue. I’ve ordered a 3/4 one, just based on the ratings/number of reviews ratio. Anyway, I’m now looking for a case and quite fancy one of those hard cylindrical types (I think they’re pool cue cases, technically speaking) but a lot of them state ‘Not for 3/4’.

Does this simply mean there’s no room for the 6” butt extension, or is because the position of the joint means the shaft will be too long for these cases?

If the latter, do these tube type cases exist for 3/4 cues?

I think originally these were only available for centre-split cues. You can get all sizes now though. Chesworth stocks all the sizes. They do 2 different lengths for 3/4, so you'll need to know shaft length.

Thank you. It’s pretty embarrassing stuff to be honest, which is why I’ve bought a cue that is probably only marginally better than the sticks they have at the club 😆

My biggest problem (at my age) is stiffness and lack of flexibility. Any shot over 9ft or so away is almost impossible for me to see unless I play it standing up. My neck will simply not flex to that degree!

Yes they do Billy, I've got one because it has a shoulder strap so I can carry it on my motorbike (not a car driver). It will take a mini butt and a short telescopic extension but not a long one, zips up both ends and has a side pocket for chalk and accessories. I have my long telescopic extension attached to it via elastic bands so all's good. Butt and shaft are separated inside the case and there's a divide inside also so the shaft can only go in one side and the butt/mini butt/short extension in the other side as the extensions go into the case on the butt side from the bottom of the case and the cue butt goes in from the top.
            Sounds complicated but it isn't.
I don't think you can buy this model anymore but there are plenty of others to choose from, Chesworth Cues sell them on ebay.

but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

The cue I’ve bought comes with a standard hard case so it’s rather silly looking for one of these tube types. If I’d been able to pick one up on Amazon Prime for £20 or so I’d have ordered one, but I could only find ones for two-piece cues. Amazon Prime has made me very impatient
