  • Silver Box

Been watching the Welsh Open and the referees all have a little silver box that they carry around with them.
I have never seen this before, so excuse my ignorance, but could someone please tell me what it is for.

It's a remote control, to update the scoreboard. Usually when on TV, another ref acts as scorer so they don't have to do that. Perhaps WSA are trying to cut the costs?

I thought the scoring machines were only used in the non televised stages? Makes the refs job more difficult because not only do they have to keep an eye on the table they also have to update the scoreboard.

Yes I noticed it at Wembley seems a very outdated thing to do.

I knew this image would be used at some point!

You usually find that it is not used on the main TV table as The Marker will do this for the referee.
