  • The last two posts are good advice, find a coach.
In the mean time there are some fundamentals you can check yourself.
    Are you
    1. Striking the Cue Ball on center
1b. Taking one last look at the CB before moving to the object ball to be sure
    2. Keeping your head down till the ball is in the pocket
    3. Keeping your eye on the object ball on the final stroke (common error!)
    4. Pushing the cue through as far as you can in straight line comfortably
    5. Gripping too tight

I would advise addressing each point one at a time for short practice session of 1/2 to 1 hour each.

    report back please

    good luck

On your point 1b. When are you recommending taking that last look at the cueball as there are about 4 different eye rhythms that different players use and some of them flick their eyes to the cueball at the start of the delivery but most of them do this at the front pause just after the feathering and just before they start their final backswing.

I find doing it at the front pause to be most comfortable for me however as I coach I have to be able to teach all of them, but I can't pot a ball when I try flicking to the cueball again at the start of the delivery.

I think you and I are clones
I suspect it takes too long to focus with such a short pause so I take the last look before the backswing.

        • 1st half century yesterday. 52 from reds scattered round black and pink spot, mostly in open play think I had to judge 1 maybe 2 simple cannons.

Big break through for me cos this is first in actualy matchplay made plenty of decent breaks in practice but my mate said once the first 50 comes in a match the floodgates open cos the confidence levels are different.

I must admit i did notice a difference when I was on breaks after that, got into the 40's again a couple of times and it was just "im going to clear the table mentality" where before wouldve been "have i made 50 yet?"

Nothing wrong with 84, it wins the frame. Everything after that is just showin off
                Nice break mate.

                      • hmmmmmmmmmmmm,,,I was down wit 26points behind and to my Amazing grace I did a clearance today winning by a point and is my greatest achivement of my life...As usual always lose the first 2 frames ( dont know why) but manage to beat mu friend 4-2 with the clearance and a very sharp potting the last black in the last frame.

                        • A 63 and a 50 in my 3-2 win this lunchtime. Felt like I was cueing really well today, although I still don't seem to have the composure to turn my chances into big breaks. I think it will return though - I seem to be edging back to the level I was at a few years ago (before the littl'uns arrived).

                          Love this game.

                              • Had 2 40+ breaks in the same frame the other night! My dad beat me in the previous frame by a country mile and said to me as I broke off "You'll come back with a vengeance"... knocked in a 42 and a 40 to put me 85-1 up!
