Played my mate on sunday night..the very first frame i had an 87 and missed a pink and there were still 2 reds in easy positions on the table.also that night had another 3 50+ breaks and 6 40+ breaks..all these came within 11 frames. Not bad considering i have been on nightshift for 9 weeks and havent played..

Today I started pretty bad, played 2 crappy frames. In the 3th frame I made my new highest break 69. I missed a red which was near the cushion. A shame cause I was in perfect position on the black and there were still 3 reds on the table!

Some decent breaks this week lads, well done hopefully they keep coming.
I'm still doing well to hit the 40's regularly, but I'm taking the plunge and going to see a great coach this week. Been self taught to this point but I think its time I had a professional help improve my game.
Anyone else went to a coach recently or early on?
How much of an impact did they have on your game and in what space of time?
Cheers

Yep coaching can only help... don't try and change everything about your game. Just maybe focus on 1 or 2 factors that are your weakest.
On the breaks this week I had a 50 ealier in the week and a 47 today with another 3 reds possible... tried a very dodgy 'dinky-screw' to try to hold from pink to red, cue action went out of the window and i didn't even get close. Wrong shot choice thinking about it now, or poor positioning on the previous shot. Always next week!

I agree with dantuck here. A good coach can only help but only work on one or two things at a time, no more than that as it will only confuse things and you won't improve as easily.
To my students I usually try and get them to do one static thing (stance, grip, bridge, etc) and then one dynamic thing (slower or maybe longer backswing or else driving the grip through to the chest) at any one time.
We choose the ones the student thinks he can master the quickest and then he goes away and gives it a try and comes back in a month or so for the next two things. I find this system usually works the best, especially with players with low top breaks, usually under 40.
