I'll try not. I'd really suggest that any player of who's not a 50+ breaker should try a larger tip, I've found the 10.5mm of the mannock gives so much more margin for error, you're potting balls you know you've cued badly. Incidently, this break was on a 1920's billiards table with tight as hell pockets, a breif talk to the game secretary suggests it may be a club record!

      • Well done, perpetualboredom, and may you have many more of them.

I always thought that using a slightly bigger tip helps with potting, but however big the tip is, it is only the same size part of the tip that actually contacts the cue ball, so it really should not make any difference.

What are the members thoughts on this?

        • When you put on unintentional side its not so exagerrated with a bigger tip so does,nt push or pull the white as much as a smaller tip .

That's what I've found for sure. Given the tip is quite flexible I'd be really surprised if a greater area didn't contact the cue ball... the chalk marks on the white are certainly larger.

            • Last night played my mate, first snooker in over two weeks. First frame I had a 32 and a 58 clearance, second frame my mate had a couple of 30 + breaks, after that we were both crap and could hardly string three balls together. Frustrating or what!!!!

Well good for you but the forum is for all levels of experience and ability.
Actually 20 could be a good break for someone who has just started playing.
Oh, and that's a bad miss.

Bet you didn't get them early on tho, takes time (too long lol) to reach 50

The 22 I had against Jim yesterday was one of my best, purely as the possitional side of things was very pleasing until I forgot to add a bit of top and ended up potting the blue into the corner but held the blue spot and with nowhere for the blue to go but as close as possible to it's spot I was snookered!

A real shame as the balls were set up lovely and I'd gotten into a nice flow..

So as you say, a 20 break can be a good break...

                          • Made a good 67 break yesterday on table opposite DWOT at my lovely club...Was left a very awkwardly placed down the left side cushion, with little chance of getting position on green on baulk cushion. Was happy with 67 though as I had to over come 2 awful kicks on the pink during it...
