So did Doug Mountjoy (1977 Masters). Also Spencer and Higgins?

Don't forget Terry Griffiths, Joe Johnson and Shaun Murphy who all won the World Championships after coming through the qualifying rounds.

Terry's first tournament was the '78 UK Championship. He lost 9-8 to Rex Williams in the qualifiing round after leading 8-2. Alex's first tounament was the Park Drive 2000 in 1972. He lost 4-3 to John Spencer in the final. This was just a few days before they started their best of 73 World final.

The answer to your question may be James Wattana. His first tounament was the 1989 Thialand Open where he got to the final and lost 9-6 to Stephen Hendry.

Didn't Marco Fu also reach his first final?

Marco Fu reached the final of the first tournament (1998 Grand Prix) in his first FULL season (1998-1999) on the circuit. He had competed in the World Championship qualifiers at the end of the previous season.
