  • Rules Question

yesterday in a friendly against a good friend, he had a free ball on the yellow, he nominated the pink, but subsequently missed the pink only for it to come up the table and knock the yellow in. is this a foul shot? i know if there are reds on the table and a free ball is awarded a player can legally knock the nominated colour onto a red and pot it, but if a free ball is awarded when only the colours remain on thee table, can a player nominate a colour and then plant the lowest ball in play (pink onto yellow in this case)??

As long as a player hits the nominated ball (pink) first he can go on to pot the ball on (yellow).

Some people find it strange though, that if both pink and yellow had been pocketed then only two points would have been scored.

As Souwester said, as long as you hit the nominated ball first, it isn't a foul. However, if he had not hit the pink first and gone on to hit the yellow, it would have been a foul.
You are only the best on the day you win.
