I think it boils down to motivation. Matthew Stevens has made a very good living out of Snooker. If you look at the fields of Music or Sport etc I think these Guys produce their best work when they are poor and very hungry. Once they make it and get the recognition and money alot of that spark goes. Then they get married have a family etc. There are very few People like Tiger Woods who can retain that hunger for success once they are in the comfort zone.

The "killer instinct" must be structural. It must be in his nature, like it is in Hendry's nature for example. I doubt Matthew Stevens has ever had it. Motivation is circumstantial. When you lack both of them there's only one way to go: down and out. Very unfortunate although I think his being such a nice guy endreared him to so many and made almost all of us overrate him as a player. I don't think he'll ever be back among the big bad wolves.... I might add I hope I'm being wrong here.....Last edited by Mignon; 8 May 2009, 09:09 AM.Winner of the 2009 UK Championship Lucky Dip

Well that's what we call "un cercle vicieux" (vicious circle?): you can get confidence only by winning and you can't win without having confidence.... He's only 33 I think. There should be plenty of time to come out of the crisis....Winner of the 2009 UK Championship Lucky Dip

There might not come a time when he needs to put petrol in his Ferrari and he reaches into his pocket to find it empty.
He has won things and is a great player, like Williams it can be hard to focus when you have made a success from sport to the degree that these two have so my answer is yes he can if he wants it but is he hungry for it, perhaps not anymore.

After watching the match with Murphy yesterday, I am kind of believed that STEVENS has waken up and is coming back to his form (in particular mentally). I wish him all good luck in this year Welsh Open and hope to see him in Master next year.Snooker will rise once again
