  • Butt Diameter

I'm just in the process of ordering a TW custom cue and I'm trying to match my old cue i have atm, But I'm not sure what is ment by butt diameter
I have looked on sites to try and find out what it actually means and still no idea
I have been to sites like Master craft and looked at there order form and seen options like 29.5 / 30.5mm etc
Now i thought it was the circumference of the cue (measured with a peace of string then a ruler) which i measured and came with 90.5mm....what the heck lol that surly can't be correct so can someone tell me exactly what butt diameter means before i crack up

    Thanks lol

Wrapping a piece of string round will give you the circumferance.

I make 90.5 circumference=28.8 diametre, assuming you measured correctly

Well 90.5 is close enough probs not too the exact, but please how did you get the diameter of 28.8 this is the bit thats confusing me.

      Cheers

        Divide by Pi.

Diametre is the width of the cue across the widest point. Circumference is Pi(3.14159)*Diametre
          So 90.5/3.14159=28.8mm

In geometry, a diameter of a circle is any straight line segment that passes through the center of the circle and whose endpoints are on the circle. (pinched from wiki)

turn ur cue upside down and measure the base
                hope that clears it up

With all the talk of geometry we didn't think of that one! lol

That's also a good solution, Mike. Strange how it's almost always the complicated, confusing ones that come out 1st, isn't it? Lol

                              just to confuse

The butt of most cues will taper, so where on the cue do you measure etc??
