  • EBSA and IBSF

    Hi,
as some of you may know already I am trying to promote snooker in Serbia. Now,our association is not a member of EBSA and IBSF. Does anyone how much is a membership in those two organizations? And can someone please explain me what will our association get with these memberships? Thanks

If you contact the EBSA first to get the ball rolling they will fill you in about joining the IBSF, but I think you need to be a member of the EBSA first.

You can contact Maxime Cassis on secretary@ebsa.tv

Membership allows your country to compete in their events.

I'm from a country where to millions people snooker is unknown. But still I thought about it.

First of all, you'll need a sponsoring firm. With the support of the firm, you should prepare an advertorial to make it well-known. Announcing a date for an exhibition game on TVs,or newspapers should be a good thing. But it depends on the popularity level of snooker in Serbia. If cuesports get attention in Serbia, then it should be much easier to get used to snooker. After the start, you will probably be a candidate for John Higgins' World Snooker Series which is the best way to introduce snooker to Europe. But it will never be easy to get inside the series, so, you should first properly televise tournaments.

These are my humble opinions, anyway, as I mentioned, I don't have any experience about this matter and just listed these to give you an idea.
          All the way Mark J!!

well the cue sports are getting more and more attention in Serbia... And I have a feeling that everyone likes snooker more than US pool... But it is going to be a really hard thing to do. I never thought of World series... And I will be able to find some sponsoring firm. The problem is televising the events... The best thing to do is to make private TV station

It would be good to run your own TV, but it would not help

Still, you may contact the federation of cue sports in Serbia if there is one and get their ideas about it. It will help in two ways: One, it will not just be a personal attempt anymore, two, they might come up with new ideas and may contact the snooker organization officially.

I wish you best luck Pity there is no way to organise snooker in Turkey

Join the EBSA, the European Association. There is a lot of experience and knowledge to advise the new member countries and associations on a whole raft of matters, which will help you to promote and enhance snooker in your country.

There is also coaching available for players, training for new coaches, training and assessment for referees.

So get in there and come and join the best Association.

see ebsa website at www.ebsa.tv, but please note this site is currently undergoing a complete rebuild, but the contact details for Max, referees association etc are valid and up to date.

Turkey is already a member of IBSF and has had players in events. A couple of years ago they were even looking to host one of the major championships, so it may just be that at grass roots level in Turkey, the association hasn't got its message out yet.

and is it possible to become IBSF member if you are not EBSA member? How can one nation become host of EBSA event?

yes it is possible to be IBSF member and not EBSA (remember EBSA is only for European countries)
but I don't see much point in that. It is better to get to know the people, players and officials in your region and compete in events. lower cost usually to just travel within Europe and then build up to one of the "dream trips" to India or somewhere else exotic.

I was just asking... I agree that first step for any country should be joining the EBSA. Is there some conditions that country needs to fullfil before joining the EBSA
