  • SPEC UP for playing with Glasses

    Hi All,

Have read the other posts on here regarding playing with Glasses, just wondered if anyone knew where I could get one of those Spec Up devices which raises the height of your glasses on your nose.

I have looked at the "Spoony" but that doesn't look very comfortable.

I am struggling more and more with trying to play without glasses but unfortunately can't do contact lenses.

Any asssitance or advise greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Hewey

Hewey, poor eyesight can be a problem for a snooker player but the solution can much depend on what the problem is with your sight. I delved into my eye problems last year and was determined to find a solution which was right for me. I've always worn glasses but managed to do without them for snooker. A couple of years ago I started missing full length of the table fine-cut type shots and I felt that perhaps my distance sight was not what it used to be. I tried wearing my glasses but ended up with a stiff neck due to the need to squint upwards through the lense. I discussed my eyesight with several opticians and like you I tried contact lenses (about 6 different types!!). Without getting too technical I ended up getting prescribed a single (daily disposable) contact lense for my dominant eye. I think the prescription was for "middle distance" viewing and I have to say it was better than glasses. Now for the bad news. I gave up with the contacts as I found them too difficult to put in and my eye was developing red veins. Apparently that can happen when the eye is starved of oxygen.
The position I'm in now is that I had a pair of single vision Dennis Taylor specs made up. I can see the other end of the table and close shots but what I can't see very clearly is really close up stuff like tying to determine a touching ball situation. Need to rely on my playing partner for that.
If its possible try to talk to an optician who knows about snooker and discuss things with him/her. Would be great if we could get some time with Dennis Taylor's optician!

      Thanks for the reply,

Was going to look at a pair of those Dennis Taylor glasses but have just spent a fortune on other pairs for other sports I do so thought the Spec up would be a cheaper alternative.

Like you full length cuts etc. are becoming guesswork which isn't good.

May have a look at the DT Glasses but ideally want to try one of those spec up's first to see how I get on. Thanks again anyway.

If anyone else can help it would be greatly appreciated.

      Cheers
      Hewey

          Hi Hewey,
I've been using the PropEyes and it works well. Saw the ad on FB here. https://fb.watch/6Nvv6URwOm/
I emailed them directly and they shipped to England. My buddy got them off amazon.
