5 point foul or 6?

During a frame on Monday my opponent was playing a red but clipped the blue by mistake which sent the cue ball into the pink potting the pink in the process.

There was a bit of a debate whether this was a 5 or a 6 point foul. Can some clever boffin clear this up?

Ah took the 5 was practice frame and pumped him by 50 points in the end anywat.

To be really pernickerty, the pink ball mentioned in the OP was not potted. A pot is, according to the rules, "when an object ball, after contact with another ball and without any infringement of these Rules, enters a pocket. Causing a ball to be potted is known as potting."

Yes, most definitely a foul, but a ball is only POTTED when it enters a pocket without a foul being committed. The rules refer to balls being 'forced off the table', but shorter forms such as 'pocketed' tend to be used. A pot is a legal shot, fouls cannot be pots.

Ok so the pink was not potted. It was knocked in the pocket after being hit by the white after it had hit the blue first instead of a red. We are agreed that foul 6 points?
