  • Can I use a pool chalk for my snoker cue?

Hi. I have only a standart pool chalk which looks like this: http://www.cmjsleisure.com/images/Chalk%20Pool.JPG

Can I use this chalk with my snooker cue or I have to buy special snooker chalk?

you can use that, but it doesnt look to be very good quality, and it would mark the balls and table more than green triangle chalk which is what most snooker players seem to use. Green triangle is also a good consistency and lasts for ages which is why everyone uses it. Its worth paying 30p rather than 10p.

      as DD said

chalks a personal preference, if you prefer one type over another then use it...

its the same tip on the cue (BD, Elk, tali etc...) so what ever chalk you put on it is up to you!!!!

I wouldn't touch that stuff. Get a block of green triangle it is much better.
The cheap blue stuff marks the cloth and balls. And doesn't work that well anyways.
One thing to note, it is generally considered good practice to use chalk the same colour as the cloth. Blue streaks all over a green snooker table do not look great.

There's no such thing as a snooker or pool chalk. There is only a billiard chalk with certain colour. I'd go for light green for snooker.
Triangle light green or Master light green...:snooker:

If you want to upset club owners, you could get Master in red colour. It is top quality as well, but leaves ugly marks...

actually if you go to any snooker club that has pool tables they almost always supply you with green triangle chalk - for pool snooker and 9 ball

(in fact i know of a couple of clubs that if they see you using anything other than green triangle then they will tell you to use it!!!)

Bit of a basic question. Could the particular type of chalk cause problems for screw shots?

I'm using SupaPro blue chalk, and have a terrible time miscueing with screw shots. And it also sticks on the cue ball very easily (and consequently comes off the tip easily). It's almost like there is too much traction - the moment after the tip hits the cue ball, it's seems like the contact point between the cue ball & cue remains the same as the cue pushes through, resulting in the cue ball having to "give" and be pushed into the air (whereas surely to impart the backspin, the cue ball begins to spin as the cue follows through, requiring some kind of slide between the tip and cue ball?).

I'm going to get some green triangle chalk, sand of the tip, and put this SupaPro stuff in the bin because I'm pretty sure it's not good!

Supapro is that horrible cheap blue stuff isn't it? Buy some Green Triangle it is a million times better. The cheap stuff sticks to the white and doesn't give a very good contact so you will always struggle using that.

I have used Pioneer chalk and it is by far the worst chalk I have ever used... Buy Triangle...
You cannot improve your game if you don't have a cue and snooker table
