I find that microfibre cloth is excellent at removing grease, moisture, and dirt that's littered all over the cue, without stripping or scoring the finish at all; there's also no moisture that transfers to the shaft. It won't prevent the crap from gathering on the cue again over time because it doesn't alter the finish, but it's served as an excellent shaft cleaner that removes all deposits with just a firm wipedown.

I would also recommend Mr. Clean Magic Eraser without water, which is essentially a disposable microfibre sponge that's exceptionally good at removing all of the deep grime from the finish. However, it has a very strong tendancy to self-pulverise into clouds of microfibre dust during use.
