He's not past it at all, he just isn't playing to the level he was during the 90's.
Still a solid top 16 player though and likely to stay a top 16/top 32 player fo a few years yet.

Incidentally White and Davis etc (or back in the day Reardon, Spencer etc) aren't past it. It's just that your game changes over the years.

If he can show the same kind of form he showed agains Murphy yesterday then i would say he is definately NOT past it....but the question can he sustain that kind of form for the rest of this season and beyond.

Yeah that is probably the best kind of thing to say spike, he just needs to be more consistent.

Yeah that's a better question.
And Maguire is only down to 8 in provisional rankings, and probably will not roll much more down with UK semi place and general luck in the draws (but ok he skipped 1 event due to injury).

But then maybe in some way it is 'fair' that the hard job one did during 2 most recent seasons provides somewhat of a 'stability' in one's 'job' for the 3rd one...
Not too sure if I woudn't prefer 1-year ranking as a one reflecting the current form of the players better.
Though as Doherty's example shows, the roll down time can come fast enough with the current system as well.
