  • Ache in bridge arm and neck

    Hi
Lots of times I get such an ache in my bridge arm that goes up to my neck when playing long passes and I wonder if other players experience the same? or if it is some physical problem I have..
I have tried to relax more, have a solid stance and enabled an even more relaxed cue action with my bridge arm slightly bent. I also go down very low in my stance and have my cue level.
The friends I play with don´t experience the same and I have a better tecnique than most of them so maybe it is just me...

The first rule of the snooker set-up is COMFORT. If you don't have that as your first objective you will end up with all kinds of problems.

I'd suggest you do what Nic and I call the 'closed eye routine. Get down into your normal stance and then shut your eyes and move everything one at a time to the maximum uncomfortable each way and then adjust to where it's the most comfortable.

Start with your right foot, out to the side then in to the middle, then adjust to the most comfortable spot. Stand up and relax and repeat twice more. Then move to the left leg/foot, then the bridge arm.

Get them all in their most comfortable positions but you have to start with the legs first as they are your base and you have to get them correct first

      Thanks Terry
I will try the closed eye routine, it´s really worth a try.
I think I already have comfortable stance, it all feels comfortable and relaxed as I am down in my stance. I have practised relaxation a lot and worked a lot specially on my stance to get that right. Also trying to be relaxed in my whole body, resting on my stance, as i move my elbow but the ache comes creeping up to me anyway.

How long have you been playing with a correct stance mate?

For several years. Just making small corrections from time to time like moving my right foot a little forward (I´m left handed) but it has been pretty much the same for a long time.

I've had this problem, to the point where my whole right arm went numb......(i'm left handed)....

I lost alot of feeling in my right hand for about 2 weeks and it was really really bad, but now it's pretty much all better....

May I ask you to share what you think made it better?

Well honestly I don't even know if it's from snooker, but most likely yes because 2 months prior I have been playing almost everyday and have been putting alot of pressure on myself to improve. One day I woke up and my arm was just messed up, initially it felt like a nerve was being pinched near my right shoulder blade and the numbness just started progressing towards my elbow and wrist area. I've had an injury to my wrist before so i sort of blamed it on that and also on bad sleeping positions.

Eventually I forced myself to excercise the arm more and ran quite alot as well and it all helped. I was going to go for a nice massage but have always been putting it off.

                I hope that helps

Maybe you could try do some arm stretching more often. Try not to pressure and stress yourself out, keep your mind relax and keep every step in position.
If you know the chinese massaging balls, where you turn/twist the two ball in your plam.
                  Maybe you can try that.

KulaBoccaSaysSo you should be grateful that you are aching from having so much table time. The only aching i'm getting in my bridge arm recently is from picking the opponents balls out of the pockets
