Most popular is a 10MM tip, some players use a 9MM but it does require more skill to do so. I notice the Canadian flag on your profile, pool players tend to use much bigger tips.
Peter Ebdon uses a 11 mm tip, Alex Borg uses 10,2 tip, Ronnie OSullivan uses 9,45 tip, Steve Davis uses 9 mm tip, and I have a friend who plays very well and he uses 8,75 mm tip.
A bigger tip means more acuracy and less spin, and a smaller tip means less acuracy and more spin.
Many thanks for all the quick answers. I purchased my cue about 12 years ago, an Alex Higgins cue and it has a 9.6 mm tip on it. Having recently taken up the game again, I guess I made a good decision back then on a cue for snooker.
The most common size of snooker cue tip is not less than 9mm and not more than 10mm.
Make sure the tip is fairly "domed" shape (I use medium grade of metal sandpaper to do mine). Tip that too dome/too flat will give less/minimum "tangen" contact with the cue ball, and...the chance/risk of miscue will happened is also higher.
Cheers.
