He once lost his powerglide cue that he had one all his 7 world titles with..and he offered a reward of 10.000 pounds..the cue turned up within a couple of days and the guy got his money.

              My first post. Greetings!

Thank You, for posting this technical information about Stephen's cue!

Coming from a nine ball pool background, I find it interesting that top snooker players use thinner diameter cues.

It seems to me that a normal sized hand could have a better hold with a thinner diameter cue.

The butt of my cue is 32.63 mm. For sometime, I've felt that it was way too fat especially after studying Terry's posts in the coaching forum for months and months. Thanks Terry. I've been a lurker for a long time & will pm you to thank you again once I get 10 posts!

Hendry has become my favorite player (love Davis's teachings and Ronnie also) because of his form and the fact that he is right eye dominant like myself.

Best Wishes & I Love the technical information on this site.
              Hendry, Davis, and Ronnie follower.

For those across the pond that care, I think Lewis will pulverize Jenson!

Well, some others have spoken. As Warren says: "Poison and tonic..." and all that. Mind, I am still horrible.

Spencer at his peak is said to have played with similar or thinner, and that using heavier balls on slower cloths!

I have often heard Drago regretting that cue!

Try playing straight pool with a tiny (6 mm) tipped, light (15 or
16 oz) thin butted snooker cue. Heavier and larger balls on a
smoother (felt, not baize) cloth. It is magic!

Sadly, one may not just run off to the local store for a decent
selection of snooker cues here in Canada.

In my youth, they were rampant, and the choices were astro-
nomical. Now, all and sundry purchase big hammers with white
plastic ferrules and hard tips. Hard to get a proper snooker cue
now, with-out the use of E-Bay, or intra-web purchase.

What type of tips do most of you use? The best I can get here
                      is 'Blue Elk'.

I have to wonder how people are getting their information.

Hendry's cue was broken into 6 pieces by British Airways baggage handlers (his words not mine) and another pro told me it was his own fault as he had it in a soft case. The story about him paying big bucks to get it back is bunk, or am I mis-reading something.

Also, there are some really good cuemakers in Canada. One of them is on this forum and his avatar is 'poolqjunkie' and he makes Aurora Cues out in Vancouver. (I know as I use one and have a spare one). There is also Kevin DeRoo in BC who is a tad expensive but makes a very good snooker cue. There are also a couple of cuemakers in Montreal who will do anything you want, 1-piece, 3/4-butt or else 2-piece with centre-joint.

Contact 'Montrealer' on here for info on the Montreal cuemakers.

In Montreal, I would say probably Thierry Layani and his partner Alain Gendron (not sure about the spelling, sorry) are the best.
I heard in ON there is a cue maker with the name Dan Broos who does great work--although I have never see them in person.
In BC, other than the ones already mentioned by Terry, the late Tom Gauthier was known to make very nice snooker cues as well.

Well, Terry, and 'Junkie' I understand your points and feel that you both make excellent and valid points, but as someone who may probably not be able to afford such cues what with motorcycles requiring rampant spendage and the lack of ability at snooker, I feel my post is still valid.

It has been a long time since a Toronto player could waltz into a local store
and purchase a pukka snooker cue to one's liking, at a reasonable price.

Come to think of it, there are few and they are far between, regular retail
outlets for billiard cues of any sort.

At the arthritic age of 46, I have come to the conclusion that Alec Higgins I
am not ( barring, of course, when I have been drinking! ).

Therefore, I am not really in the mood to spend hundreds of CAD or pounds
on a cue. Just as when I finally had to give up golf nine and one half years ago
or hockey seven years ago, I have come to the conclusion that the skates used by Lemieux, or the clubs by Weir, or the cue by Robidoux are wasted on
a hack-duffer such as myself. I play, poorly, every day at my local Legion, and generally only play one frame due to the pain.

My point was that the general goof (me) in the C.O.T.U. did not have too
many options for a nice recreational snooker cue.

                            Sorry for the verbosity. Andy

I had a Powerglide Connoiseur and mine had a butt diameter of 32mm at the end. If you look at Stephen's cue on the end in his book, it has a custom plate, maybe he had the end of the butt shortened, so it was slightly thinner. When I saw him play I noticed how slim his butt was on his Accurate cue, he only has medium size hands, and this 27mm would suit him better.

                                hi terry

hendrys cue did get stolen, obviously before it was broken and his manager offered a large sum for its return. something like 10 grand.

to which as you can tell it was returned, in hendrys coaching book tells this story. As he talks about how important your own cue can be to your game

think he was only on his 3rd world title at this time
