hey burwat, gotta agree with everyone on this matter your not doing anything wrong, if players are adopting the "hit and run" tactic with you, there is nothing wrong with opening the pack up go put in a decent break to reduce the defecet.
your clearly a threat to your opponents so i'm guessing they did not like you kicking their back sides on the baize however i'm sure an element of jelousy is also involved.
as for the player putting in a 112 break an then loosing purposely to create a closer finish for the sake of his handicap being reduced............thats wrong.

Once upon a time in this world you had to earn respect, now people think it's a given right, that's bollocks. Respect the etiquette of the game at all times, but any cushion crawler who isn't trying to better themselves as a player deserves no respect at all as far as tactics are concerned.

haha that was a hilarious match
after Ken got 4-0 up it was all decided and they made a little 2 frame exhibition
Hann made it seriously and many pros called that as disrecpect and disgrace

I know many will dissagree but i'm a bit old fassioned like that. I think it comes down to the whole repect for you opponent thing that is such a big part of snooker for me. At least look like your trying to get a safe white ball.
I've seen a shot from the break-off a couple of times by a player trying to make up sometimes 100 or 110 points! What he'll do is is to smash into the back of the pack with top-spin, it's seems quite a reliable shot as it scatters all the reds and then the top-spin takes effect and keeps the white close to the top cushion.

Yep I agree with the tactics as well, the people complaining are only put out because they haven't won too many frames when you've done this.

Gernerally, if you apply top spin and try to hit the back of the pack at speed, on break off, the white will jump over the pack, unless you do not hit it hard.

                It's all about choice!

I have played the "smash em from the back" shot many times over the years for varying reasons:

If I find myself 3 or 4 nil down in one of those matches were the wee rubs and runs all go against you, then I nearly always crash em from the back to try and change the whole flow, run and mood of the game.
No-one is outraged when managers send on subs to create 5 or 6 attackers on the park when matches are running away from them.
I would always much rather go down fighting with all guns blazing than limp home without at least having had a swing!

I have played this shot at many levels from league matches, handicap events, NGB National Ranking Events, Grand Prix Events, European and World Amateur events.

I have had many differing reactions to it from "well in, good to watch, that's mad, took a big chance there, that's rubbish, that's no allowed, your out of order, didnae think ye wid do that against him, quite right"
                Even "That's against the rules!"

Regardless of what anyones opinion is on the rights or wrongs of that shot, the FACT is that there is nothing within the rules of the game that says it is not allowed.

In Scotland we have even had club owners say that if anyone is found to be playing that shot in any of their competitions held in their club, that they will disqualify them from the competition!

That's a wee bit like a boxing promoter or venue stating that if any boxer throws an uppercut or haymaker that they will be disqualified in the fight.

We could all go on and on about the rights and wrongs of this question/issue.
It should be suffice that it is not any sort of offence within the rules of the game.
The game has declined enough without anyone now wanting to take freedom of choice from shot selection!

Most decent players who are confident of their own ability nearly always answer that they would actually welcome an opponent choosing to play that shot against them.
Others should go and improve their game to a level were they can deliver a knockout blow when presented with an open chin.

But would a referee consider it to be 'ungentlemanly conduct'?

The Referee ALSO has to play to the rules.

He would need to prove that ungentlemanly conduct was present in the match.
I think he would struggle on calling the shot itself as that.

Why dont you ask a Referee.

PS I am an EBSA Grade 3 Referee as well.
Might be interesting what other Refs thought.
Well to be honest.......... not what they thought, more their ruling on the shot.
