  • Black ball Question

Playing in a match last night, we got down to the pink,as the pink went in the scores were equal, the guy goes for black and the white goes in off. foul 7, but as i go to pick the white up his captain turns around and says game over because he has fouled on the black.
Now i try to say, because its all square you can foul on the black and carry on,but before i can say it, his captain picks up a couple of reds and chucks them on the table. after hearing what i said his captain picks the reds up from the table and says we should carry on !!!
I said by putting the reds on the table he had conceided the frame, and a row broke out. it ended when the bloke i was playing chucked the black across the table and stormed out.
    So was i right ?

Not quite. The first score on the final black ends the frame, unless the points are then equal. He fouled on the black, therefore the frame was over, with you winning by 7 points. Had the scores been equal after the foul, it would have been a re-spotted black.

Odrl is absolutely correct but to put the icing on the cake, these are the Rules which cover your situation -

      Section 2
      Rule 1. Frame
A frame of snooker comprises the period of play from the first stroke, with all the balls set as descibed in Section 3 Rules 2, until thge frame is completed by:
      (c) the final pot or foul when only the Black remains.

The Rule for respotting the final Black is -

      Section 3
Rule 4. End of Frame, Game or Match
      (a) When only the Black is left, the first score or foul ends the frame excepting only if the following conditions both apply:
      (i) the scores are then equal, and
(ii) aggregate scores are not relevant.

So in your situation, you have won the frame, not because the opponent stormed out, but because he fouled on the final Black and as a result, you were ahead on points.
      Some days I'm the statue.
      Some days I'm the pigeon.
Today is a statue kind of day.

Perhaps pointing out that in matches where aggregate scores are used across frames, then you will have a respotted black if the aggregate scores are equal at the end of the final frame.

Hence in theory, a player may make a 147 break in the final frame of the match, but that may make the aggregate points level, so there would have to be a respotted black!
